    True Greens ?

Over the years, I have seen quite a number of postings referring to greens as 'running true' or just 'true greens. What does this actually mean ? While I acknowledge that any particular green can be slow or fast or bumpy, or that I can consistently mis-read the break of just about any putt I attempt - what is it that actually makes a green 'true' or 'untrue' ?

To me, the result of a putt after I hit it is simply a function of the undulation of the green & the speed that I hit ball: ie - physics and gravity - the ball will go exactly where the dynamics of the current conditions demand. Can someone help me out here.

When the roll is smooth and the ball isn't moved off line as it rolls by inconsistencies in the surface. It's not about the breaks and undulations.

To me a true green is one in excellent + condition----perfectly cut and rolled and it would be taking undulation---wind--wetness etc into account to hit that perfect putt.

In other words--you figure which way the ball will move to counter effect the gravity and undulations----like trying to figure out the final question on your physics exam.

Remember Phil's putt when the seed pod fell right in front of his ball---I don't think he figured that would happen---but that did not take away the true green. Personally I think it would be pretty hard to find true greens on your average course--it takes a lot of know-how and $$$$$ to train mother nature
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

I agree with Kilroy on the definition
