Free drop or play it as is?
Beside a 100 yd stake. ( a 4 by 4) I removed the stake but the grass around it was 6 inches long. My ball was in light rough but my backswing had to be much stepper because of the long grass.
I played it where it was but had to alter my swing. A friend wondered why I hadn't left the red stake in place but taken relief from it because it interfered with my swing.
So I am wondering if I could have taken relief from the stake instead of removing it?
Thanks

If it's a movable obstruction you would not get free relief for leaving it in. If it's an immovable obstruction you would be able to take relief if it interferred with your stance or swing. If the grass isn't cut around where the stake was that is just the way it is.

I'm curious now, does he have to make an attempt to remove the post? I mean if its 4x4 it's not exactly small. If he decides to not try and move it, does he then get a free drop?

"That's Just the Way It Is" is a single performed by Phil Collins and David Crosby that was released in 1990
Not to be confused with The Way It Is (song) or That's the Way It Is (song).
