    Talking Goals for the season

Thought I would start this thread again since we are so close to hitting the links.

What crazy goals have folks thought up for themselves over the winter?

    Mine (in no particular order):

    1. Be pin-high. ALWAYS.
    2. Play more with the old man. Now that he has 2 new hips he might start winning some beers....
    3. Take 6 pts at the Intersectionals.
    4. Focus more effectively during tournaments
    5. Win more skins!!!

    Cheers!

    5. Win more skins!!!
That can be tough to do, even with a 59!

    MY goals;
    • Able to play the whole season - I basically missed from mid July on last year due to my neck injury.
    • Repair the damage done to my handicap last season
    • Win a tour event (already have one OGTour victory )
    • Improve my GIR. I miss a lot of greens and depend on my short game heavily, so basically I wan to to turn more bogeys into pars
    • Beat Steve straight up when he is sober and excuse free.
    • Outdrive Colby. (OK so that ain't gonna happen, but I can dream)
    • Out whine Pops. Could happen, but I would have to really concentrate

1 - Make golf cost less than $100/day by drinking less beer on the course.
2 - Ditto for the reefers...
3 - Find the 85% swing, and use a longer club instead of ripping at the ball.
4 - Lower OGT handicap to below a stroke per hole (6 shots) as I don't find it realistically representative of my ability. But I am biased here, as I know I can play better than I often do.
5 - Get under 85 three times, under 80 once.
6 - More money on OGT this season to make the wife happy... well, less mad anyways..!
7 - Learn better wedgeplay around the green. I lose a PILE of strokes shooting balls back and forth over the green sometimes because I have no real short game knowledge.
8 - Play all the OGT events this season, and place top 3 for my kids. They like cheering for stuff, but I don't give them many opportunities during golf season...
9 - Swear less while golfing.
10 - Keep having fun at it. It's only a game, and can be very relaxing if one doesn't take it too seriously.

Long list, but all realistic, aggressive and achievable goals....

My only goal: FIND MY SWING! :

If that happens early in the season then I would like to:

    1. Break my last year low (68).
    2. Drop my handicap to the end of 2003 season.
    3. Make the final round at the Ottawa Citizen tourney.
    4. Win back my club champ title.
    5. Win more skins (to pay for that new used driver!).
    6. Play more on better courses.

    TP

I gotta say my goals are pretty simple. I want to become a little more consistent with the short game and help my team win the Canadian University Championships. If i can do that, i really don't need any individual wins!!

    Keeping it simple:

    1. Get my handicap into the single digits and keep it there.
    2. Record an ace.

    5. To win the QGA Public Player Ottawa qualifier.
    6. Make more eagles.

    My goals:

    1. Take several lessons (instead of just SAYING I'm going to take lessons like previous years).

    2. Improve my ball flight / trajectory via swing improvements. I'd like more carry and less roll.

    3. Maximize my driving distance by getting a more ideal launch angle. Ok... actually I don't care HOW I achieve this goal. Whether it's new equipment or a better swing... I'll take it any way it comes!!

    4. Lower my handicap. I'd like to get it into the 6-7 range. Also, improve on my personal best of 75.

    5. Play more! Including more rounds after work and when there is less than perfect weather.

    6. Eagle one of the Par 5's at Stonebridge. My wife has!

Wow......... some pretty good goals for some of you.

Goal setting is not for me. But if it was ................................

    - Lower handicap to under 10 and STAY in there. Made it last year but only for a few weeks .
    - Win an OGTour event, although that may not happen.
    - Keep the OGTour Ryder Cup in the hands of Team BLack for a third straight year.
    - Keep the OGT vs SOGA Ryder Cup in Ottawa also for the Third straight year.
    - Enjoy golf everytime I play.

Beat Steve straight up when he is sober and excuse free.
Dan......you would think by now you would know this wont happen. Being sober that is.

    LOL.

BTW - Garrison GC is at CFB Kingston, and you don't have to live in Quebec to be a QGA member. Their zone extends west to Brockville.

    Have a fun season.

    Hmmm.

Last year was a pretty good year, dropping my index to 9.1, my first ace, finishing in the top 10 in my first club championship. What to do for this year...
    1. Maintain a single digit index
    2. 12+ rounds sub-80
    3. Play some Ottawa Area courses I haven't played
    4. Play some Clublink courses I haven't played
    5. Finish top 5 in Club Championship
    6. Work on consistency, more fairways hit, more GIR
    7. Continue to have a good time no matter what (even if I play with guys who get grumpy when they don't play as well as they think they should)
    8. Win more cleaners/ctp money on the OGT. I think I was shut out last year...
It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

    My aspirations, legitimate or not

    1. Look to get handicap to 10 or better.
    2. Look to play 80-100 rounds.
    3. Make intersectional team at club.
    4. Get rid of that pesky fade with driver, only club in bag that is not straight or drawing.
    5. Try not to take this frustrating game so serious, hey were are not pros right!

    My goals for the year

    1. Try to get to a ten handicap.
    2. Win the rider cup (go team green)
    3. Beat Steve while we're both too drunk to care.
    4. Fewer layups on short par 4's
    5. Have tons of fun on the OGT with my buds

1-Stop thinking when hitting the ball.
2-Practice 4 times for every round played.
    3-Bring up my GIR stats.
4-All of the above should bring my HDCP down from 7 to 5 or less. :checkered
Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

You can get rid of that pesky fade the old fashion way, get a new shaft for it, probably a shaft this is a little softer, all you might need to do is switch from an X to stiff, or whatever.

Any accomplishments are incidental to improved ball striking, pitching and putting, all of which I feel have improved through wintertime, indoor practice and continue to work on daily.

If the above goes well I hope to:
    1. Qualify for the Alexander of Tunis et al for the 3rd year in a row, completing a 2003 goal of playing the 3 club rotation before I turn 60 in late summer, 30 years after playing in my first Tunis, Kent and Am. Making the cut and NOT scoring 81 in the second round which is my habit.

    2. Winning our club championship for the 3rd year in a row, by beating the OG Forum members who hit the ball 30 to 75 yards past me.

    3. I covet the OVGA Seniors Championship trophy. A 3 putt from 15' cost me a tie last year.

    4. Play in the RCGA Canadian Seniors Championship in September, at the Milby Golf Club.

    5. Ultimate Pie in the Sky goal - Finish in the top 4 in the QGA Seniors Championship, at Richelieu Valley GC, making the provincial team, and have you guys who pay QGA fees pay all of my expenses to the Canadian Seniors championship. (Thanks in advance)

    6. Get my handicap back on the + side of 0.

If none of the above happen, so what? Having fun playing this, the most challenging of games, is always the ultimate goa.l

    1. Keep my handicap below 5
    2. Play a lot of golf (that might be hard with the wedding preparation)
    3. Play some golf in Toronto/Muskoka (Clublink courses) - Discover some new courses
    4. Play another round under par (got my first one last year)
    5. Make the intersectional team again this year
