Number 7 for Eldrick "Tiger" McGee
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

Blow up is a bit of a harsh assessment, wouldn't you say?

I'm not sure what your definition of a "blow up" is, but +12 on the final day for this calibre is a "blow up" in my opinion.

Well, I'm just saying that if you didn't play it's a bit unfair to say that they blew it. If lots of scores were high, isn't that a testament to the difficulty of the set up?

I guess what I should say is that this is a game where scores are going to vary. Shooting a higher number, especially in competition will happen to all of us.

I've played in a lot of competitions, and I do realise that scores can vary. I have played with this individual I was mentioning as well, so I know his calibre. Going +12 in this round is my definition of a blow up.

Either way, I probably wouldn't even have qualified with the way my game is going. Played 18 yesterday, went -1 on the back after shooting 43 on the front.

The average for the field was +8, so that individual only did a few strokes worse

It was really tough as it is playing from the back (a couple par 4's that are 460 yds and force you to layup to < 250 yds, and a couple par 3s that are 210 yds uphill), and that's probably especially true for players that had never played there and have no idea how some holes need to be played to stay out of major trouble.
It's not as if the people had a couple really bad holes, but the majority were just making their share of bogeys.
Course was long, tough, and reallllly hot

Royal is indeed a course that benefits from multiple rounds played. Very challenging, but one of my favourites for sure.

Iplayed it a few weeks ago and was completely underwhelmed.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I second that. The practice green was great but the greens on course were disappointing (not all). Fairways were great, and certain holes were picturesque, but quirky too. I'd prefer some other courses but I'm still happy I got to play it once.

The course has a few unique holes, nine and fifteen in particular, that require specific placement of tee shots that most other courses do not. With the exception of the addition of some new tee decks, the RO has been left untouched by the "modern" architect. It has the same course I played my first ever tournament on in 1960, and was probably the same decades before that. It is a very difficult course on which to go low and a higher stroke average is certainly understandable. It has a rich history in the development of golf in Canada and is deserving of our respect.
