Gaps in my golf bag...need your advice.
I recently bought a new set of Callaway x hot 4-AW irons as a changeup from my Callaway x forged 3-PW set.
The woods that I have in my bag currently are an 8.5 Ping G20 driver and an 18.5 degree Titleist 909F 4 Wood.
Here is my dilemma...the 4 iron of the X Hot is 20 degrees which is exactly what my old 3 iron used to be (gee I wonder why I hit all my irons 10 yards further now).
So my question is, should I add in the X Hot 3 iron which is 18 degrees, or go to some type of 3 hybrid in 17 or 18 degrees or stick with my 4 wood? play with 2 of those?, play all 3? drop the 4 w and get a 3 w? I'm confused.
What would you guys recommend I go with on the front end of my bag?
Thanks

your 4 wood is really a 5 wood. i'd try to find a 16.5 or 17 degree fairway wood or hybrid.

The 4 wood is 18.5 and the 4 iron is 20 degrees, my 5 iron is 23 degrees, 6 iron is 26 degrees and so forth...

How far do you hit the following? Driver, 4 wood, 4 iron.

When struck solidly...Driver- 285+, 4/5 wood- 235, 4 iron- 205
You know I always assumed that my fwy wood was a 4 wd but Gregnol is probably right...it's actually closer to a 5 wd.

This might be a silly question...but why are you only hitting your 18.5 4-wood 235 if you hit your driver over 285?
I hit my driver similar to you when hit solid, and I hit a 20 degree hybrid 235...mostly in the air... It also has a shorter shaft than your 4-wood I'm presuming.
Not giving you a hard time, I'm just trying to figure out your gaps and I assume you would be hitting your 4 wood a bit longer is all.
As for a recommendation...I'd suggest adding whatever you feel you will use more at the courses you play. Are you often using longer irons or your 4-wood after hitting your drive 285+ yards? I RARELY play anything more than a 6-iron where I play for an approach. So if you don't think you'd need a 4-wood, pick up a 3-wood and add a hybrid.

It may be longer than 235 (maybe 10-15 more) but the truth is that I don't get to hit it all that often and I don't recall hitting it further than that when I did. I'm thinking that a 15 deg wood along with a 17 degree hybrid might be the ticket.
Thx to all!

That sounds like it would make the most sense. I mean I don't often see longer hitters that I play with use anything off the fairway other than 6 iron to 60 degree wedge if they mash the driver as you do.
