    A very funny incident.

Sadly, and as ever the commentator got part of it wrong but didn't acknowledge his error. He assured us that, (a) most people don't really understand the rules and (b), the player would first have to take relief from the loo and drop on the path, then take relief from the path. He told the world that the player couldn't do it in one step - which the player under the watchful eye of the referee proceeded immediately to do.

What rule do you reckon the referee had in mind?

I reckon that the loo, the paving outside the loo and the cart path were tied in as one contiguous obstruction. Pretty standard operating procedure.

That's what I speculated elsewhere but no one has posted any confirmation that I have seen.

I agree with JGT4 - it would be highly unusual, in my opinion, for a building attached to a paved path to be considered a separate immovable obstruction thus requiring relief in two steps. It would be a nightmare for players and a poor decision by the Rules committee.
