It looks like a Damn training aid from the golf channel. That's why I want it gone.

Ban it. A few veteran PGA players have said " if you started a child from a young age with a belly putter, he would probably be the best putter in the world".

Thats proly why some people who try it "now" don't like it - but create the muscle memory at a young age, it becomes an even bigger advantage, or make the hole smaller in 10 years when this kids get to the show.

Could you tell us who those veteran players are and supply the attributes.

Arnold Palmer - but what does he know. I will let you google it for an hour, and provide the reference if you wish.

Jack Nicklaus, on the other hand, said he was not bothered by the belly putter. “You still got to knock it in the hole,” he said at the Honda Classic last month. “I just don’t see the big deal about it.”

Jack doesn't ever want to offend anyone that wants to play golf. Jack also thinks Golf should be 12 holes - end of story.

Jack sits on top of the fence - where the grass is green on both sides.

Rick Barry shot %90 from the free throw line in his career shooting that way, as I am sure you are aware.

Interesting historical fact - the first British Open Championship in 1860 was held on a 12 hole golf course.

Just curious, as everyone knows, they are not trying to ban long putters, just the anchoring. What percentage of players use the putter without anchoring it; I know that I do.

Jack sit on the fence. Hardly. He can be brutally honest.

If this is such an advantage why don't the stats back it up? How about end the debate and not ban it?

There is no statistical evidence to prove whether it is an advantage or not. The required statistics would be for the same player using both types of putting during the same year, with sufficient data points to establish the necessary confidence level.
Comparing player A with an anchored putter to player B with a regular putter, or all players that use anchored putters to those that don't is totally useless - it's like comparing apples to bananas.

Turning around what you've said - if it is not an advantage, then those players using it will have no problems when they switch back to the regular, non-anchored putting stroke.

There are stats on Adam Scott per and post belly putter. But I agree with you. That just makes me curious, if the advocates of the ban had numbers on players like Scott, Els, Phil M etc. why haven't they brought them out to support their case? So, my opinion is there isn't anything conclusive.
As for changing equipment. I love Cleveland wedges and do not like the feel of vokeys. I bet you at least half the forum would never give up their vokeys. If I had to play vokeys ( a great wedge but not my choice) you are right I could adapt.
My point is I see my use of a belly putter as a preference not an advantage.

The ruling bodies never justified their position based on an advantage or disadvantage, so it's really irrelevant.

FWIW, I do think that an anchored stroke is an advantage for those that use it when compared to their use of a non-anchored stroke with any putter.

But our opinions won't carry the day.
