    Intersectionals

I am new to the area and have a few questions about Intersectionals.

Is there a website for OVGA Intersectionals?

How many Districts are there? I'm aware of Kingston and Ottawa. Are there others?

    Is there competition between districts?

    Thanks!

Kingston area have their own intersectionals as does the Ottawa area.

The Ottawa schedule is here: http://www.ovga.org/index1.asp?id=200

The Kingston information should be found here: http://www.gao.ca/index.php/ci_id/6749/la_id/1

I assume each club has their own qualifying method. What are the most common methods?

Ya and double bogey putts usually don't matter in match play!

AGC will have the best 2 out of 3 using Stableford. (Bogey=1, Par=2, Bird=3, eagle=4) Going to be a crazy qualifying for us!!

We're tied. One in 53 years of playing. At this rate, I will be 130 when I get my next one.

    I knew you had one!

Funny story on mine. Saturday fun round at Mts Creek. 3 wood, 4 iron into the hole for the albatross on #9. Sunday, Qualifying round, same spot, 4 iron into the hole! but this time I had hit 3 balls out of bounds and made an 8!

I've been playing for 52 years and have only one. Aces are much easier to get. As for scoring another, I doubt that will happen. Par 5s are harder to reach in two as I get older, and getting to par 4s in one is only a memory.

Just wanted to brag, my intersexuals are going very well. Got two rounds in last night.

    Intersectionals not so good.

There might be a correlation here... more research needed

He's the 3rd Alternate! A lot of guys who have played the past couple of years didn't make it!
A great effort by Mike Payer, Derek MacLean, Richard Pope, Jason McCormick, Warren Mooney and
several others, Made for a very competitive qualifying.

Anyone know why the Intersectionals on a scheduled for this day? It's a really poor fit with the Golf Quebec schedule. The Tunis is 7-8, Kent 12-13 (in Quebec City), Intersectionals on the 14th and Am from the 15-19 (including practice round). It seems like a really busy couple of weeks with travel too. Good thing I'm skipping the Kent...

For the longest time it was the weekend of Canada day (but people were to busy) so they changed it to the next week. Perhaps the questions should be why are all the other ones around it?!

We changed to a slightly different Stableford format. Bogeys 1 pt, par 3 pts and birdies 5 points. It makes sense to me because pars a winning in match play so there is more emphasis on them in the scoring.
    What do people think?

Not sure how many holes you're going to win with pars...

Either way it's the same outcome, just inflated qualifying numbers.

    FYI the Rivermead team is:

    Robert Mustard
    Maxime Merengere
    Mark Mackay
    Stephane Pare
    Robert Mackay
    Robert Fugere
    Brendan Duvall
    Jean Michel Potvin
    Richard Brochu
    Larry Morin
    Alternates:
    Marc Andre Clouthier
    Ken Lafreniere

I beg to differ. In the bogie 1 par two system a bogie is with 50% of a par where in this system it is only worth 33%. That is a big difference.
My guess is if you went around with a high percentage of pars you would be in your match coming down the stretch. Maybe not in the top few divisions but for most divisions I think that would be the case.

Regardless of the level of Intersectional play, and in a "average" competitive round of golf, players would normally make more bogeys than birdies. Therefore, pars by opponents would win more holes than would be won by birdies, and so the steady player is more likely to win over the streaky one.

I also agree that pars win holes. Not beating all 3 FC, but the occassional 1. I have had 6 points many times, but not shot better than 71-73 ish. As far as the modified stableford, i guess is the team much different than other years? If it isn't, then no difference. If it is then i guess the test will be the intersectional competition results.
Gimmie: agreement to concede short putts between 2 golfers, neither of which can putt very well.

I didn't mean that the are mathematically the same, only that it probably identifies the same set of players that would make the team each year. To me the stableford thing is pretty useless at our course. Even is 36 points, figure out the score from there. It only comes into play if you make worse than double which is rare for those who make the team.
