    Butt trimmed golf shaft

just took the grip tape off my irons and noticed tiny bits of rust. upon further inspection i noticed that my shafts had been butt trimmed on what seems to be a slight angle. is this normal?

The rust or the angled cut ?

What's the history of these sgafts ? Are they the original shafts ? Have you had work done on them ?....

The rust could be a plethra of reasons

The angled cut is poor workmanship.

shafts were purchased new and assembled in older golfsmith heads by a local clubmaking store two years ago.. they are true temper black gold's and i had a set of sharpro grips on them. took off the grips and noticed what seemed to be rust so decided to peel the tape off as well.

The rust is probably due to moisture gathering through the butt end of the grip due to neglect when cleaning grips or storing them. If when the grips were installed, the butt end of the shaft was not closed over by the double sided tape, the moisture would remain inside the shaft causing the oxidization.

It is not a cause for concern because it is surface rust but it should be cleaned.

As previously mentioned, unless there is some new method of butt trimming shafts on an angle that I do not know of...

Could be the cause of the moisture with the butt end of the grip moving around and causing the tape to erode thus creating a gap into the shaft.
