Bending Wedges Q's
Hey Club Builders,
I know just about nothing about this aspect of the game, so here I am asking away!
I just took possession of my new set of irons and they came with an Approach Wedge which is 51.5*. This is perfect for me because I always had trouble hitting blade type wedges with full swings, so having a cavity wedge shorter than my PW will be super practical.
Here is the main question... I currently carry a 52* (8* Bounce) and a 56* (12* Bounce), they are TM Rac TP's. Could these be bent to 54* and 58* degrees respectively or would this be impossible due to bounce?
Let me know what you think, these wedges would be used for 3/4 swings, bunker shots, chip shots... etc.Captain of the Back to Back Ryder Cup Champs 12-13!

Very doable. 52 will move to 10* bounce and 56 will move to 14*.

Its a simple bend, any reputable builder can do it. I'm not sure who's out in the east end. If you were out this way I'd recommend downhillslider.

Hi Sebber as everyone says the bend to achieve 54 and 58 degrees of loft is no problem however the change in bounce
could give you issues.
depending where you play most of your golf if the bunkers are hard sand and the approach or chipping areas are
hardpan then the last thing you want is bounce.
you may need to get help with taking to bounce off your shots.
Others reading this should consider taking 2-3 degrees of loft off 62,or 60and 56and 52 you could the drop your PW and 4iron definitely unless you are a single digit handicap
and still have room for a combination of metal woods and hybrids.
the 62 would probably have 6 degrees of bounce 'bent 2 degrees strong it would go to 4 degrees
golfworks have good tech and verey accurate loft and lie machine
watch for lie change also

wedge bending lofts and bounce
Hi Chieflongtee,
A wise and correct observation, however hitting down on the ball or "ball first" technique requires greater accuracy off hardpan and harder sand.
More bounce leaves less room for error as even a 1/4" strike behind the ball brings the bounce into the equation
causing at worst a horrible skull at best a thinner hit with no backspin .
So imho my thought would apply to 90% of golfers who dont break 100 and even low handicap players would benefit.
they can of course use wedges with low or zero bounce heel grinds and open the face,.any one able to do this probably avoids playing courses with hardpan and hard sand!

Got my wedges bent a few weeks ago... so far so good, never had anything over 56* but I am slowly becoming more comfy with the 58*
