Question Buy or make your own platform mat for opti shot?

    Hi
I am in the process of trying to make my own golf simulator in the garage and was wondering what most people are doing for golf matts? Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Slyder, I would make your own and save $ . There's a video on you tube from stickythings that shows them using a 4x5 insulation foam 2" thick under some plywood with a cutout for the opti. You could buy teeline turf for your top or some people use carpet. The other option is 2x4's (flat) with plywood on top. I strongly suggest you protect your optishot first but changing the thin original turf for a thicker one. I bought a 4X5 teeline turf pad and made cut outs for the sensors. It was from a place in Welland Ontairio.

    Thanks Bubba
I don't believe I would of ever thought of that.I will have to certainly check that angle out. Not to go to far off stream but I noticed
you had a few posts on screens as well. I was thinking of putting mine on a track that I could pull accross and attach it to the other wall with bungee cords when I want to use it and then push it back out of the way when it is not in use. I believe the thread had to do with the screen getting wrinkled . Do you see me having a problem using this kind of a system? Thanks again to you and all on this board, the wealth of information on this subjest is unbelieveable!

I think bubba has provided you some good links. You can buy a mat made for the Optishot but you can just as easily cut out a rectangle instead and save yourself some bucks. I've seen people use plywood and etc to raise the height of their mat to level off the Optishot board. It's a cheap solution but I much rather use foam exercise mats. I would hate for the wood to warp and have a bounce or even clapping noise if I stand on it. The foam though varies in thickness from 1/4" all the way to 1". Just glue the golf mat you select to the foam mat(s) and you'll have a nice setup for a reasonable price. Since it's light weight, just hang it on the garage wall then it's not in use.

I used allturfmats.com ultimate monster golf mat and jagmanjoe's optishot cover and it works great, as they are the same thickness.

Which cover from jagmanjoe is that? The shell lite one piece? I want to copy your mat setup. Did you cut the space for the optishot your self?

Thanks for the plug, Azgdds. I have also been hearing of customers using the All Turf Mats as well as foam mats and gluing turf to them. Just be sure you use something that does not let your feet sink into the surface too much. Otherwise, you will be finding your feet consistently below the ball.

Hope you are really enjoying the turf!
