Shaft advice
So I absolutely love the new G25 driver.
But here is the question...
What shaft is going to work???
I prefer a 10.5*
I was swinging around 97mph
I hit the R flex well but launched a bit too high
Smash factor was always 1.46
If I tried to swing harder I didn't have the control
I am sure once golf season gets here I will be closer to 100mph
I have a very smooth swing
I don't think the R flex stock shaft will be enough
But I think the S might be too much
I also plan to play it at 44.75"
The stock comes at 45.75"
What is I get an inch off the butt end?
Would a lower torque shaft help?
Would a mid launch shaft be better than the high launch stock shaft?
They offer the Blur Red which is a mid launch, lower torque shaft... Would that be enough in an R flex?
I know it is tough to give feedback because everyone is different.
I just need a slightly stiffer shaft with a mid launch.
Thanks!!!Last edited by golfisforfun; 02-23-2013 at 08:05 PM.

Stock R is 45.75"
So I could just ask Ping to tip it 1" so it plays 44.75"?
That will make it play a bit stiffer?
Should be a similar swing weight?
Does that lower ball launch angle also?

The ping R TFC stock is a high torque shaft.5.0 And from the specs it seems like a soft tip shaft as well.

If you cut in down it will play a little stiffer and yes the swingweight will be altered if no weight is added to the head. Tipping it from the tip might help if there is enough tip to cut for the shaft to fit the hosel but I would not bother.
Fiiting over the internet is at best a very broad approximation but if you want control get something with low torque low launch angle and a little heavier. Best to try different combos or go see a fitter.

So maybe the Blur Red is the trick...
It is a bit heavier, lower launch and lower torque.
If I play it at 44.75" it will definitely seem firmer and should give me the lower launch I am looking for.
Thanks for the input.
Now it's time to find a ball! Hahaha

If it were me I would go for the blue in R flex. Lower torque and lower launch angle. And we do not know fore sure that the stamped loft is a real 10.5 as is seen in many cases. But unless you want want to guestimate the Blur red is a better choice than the stock TFC

I would say go with the head digitally lofted at 10* and a Blur Red in stiff. You're pretty close to the cross over of a R /S and the Blur is not an overly stiff shaft and a mid bend shaft so that should fit you fine. This is all based on knowing nothing about your swing/transition etc. and so this could all be wrong too..lol

I had a bit of trouble turning over the S flex stock shaft on a consistent basis. Ball flight was fairly low and push/fade right.
I am leaning towards a stiff in the stock shaft and then I will order a R flex Blur Red tipped 1" to 44.75" from Ping.
Thanks

Hi,
Here are my thoughts:
If you launch it a bit high, have you tried the 9.5 degree loft?
On the shaft stiffness, do you miss it right when you go after it? 97 - 100 mph swing is not chopped liver! I am a little above that range, and play a 75g Fuji Rombax. I love it, and it is stable and predictable for me. I tried the 65g Fuji Rombax to try to get a little more kick out of the shaft, and had trouble controlling the ball. I was missing consistently to the right. These were Taylormade Fuji's. I understand from a pro friend of mine that the TM Fuji's were real Rombax shafts according to the TM tour van guys. I also have an aftermarket 75g Rombax, and it performs the same. Reliable and predictable. I think the torque is on the low side for these shafts.
I would think your swing speed would put you in the s-flex category. Lower torque would make the shaft feel more stable through the swing. At least, that is my experience.
I agree with the others that tipping it 1 inch would make it play slightly stiffer, and would lower ball flight -- the tip stiffness would increase. Tipping it 1 inch would probably bring it to a stiffness between R and S. My estimation would be closer to S than R, but it would help in achieving your objectives.
Cheers!
