TV Advice please...
Looking to buy a new 50" tv but have no clue what to get...
Plasma?
LCD?
LED?
Smart TV?
I watch a lot of sports and some network tv shows.
I have Rogers Cable
I don't watch BlueRay
I don't play video games
I have a Apple Computer with a 24" screen and I have Apple TV
Looking to spend $1500 max

Plasma gives a great picture and is very cost effective, but if you watch a lot of tv during the day, there is glare. LED is better for glare, but more expensive. If you have apple tv, you don't need a smart tv.
My 0.02$ ...
Cheers!

Given that you watch a lot of sports, plasma is the way to go. You don't have to worry about "tracers" with refresh rate when the camera moves side to side as it does in most sports.
I recommend Panasonic Viera for Plasma.

Edmontongolfer is right. head to stereoplus and get yourself a 50" Panasonic Viera Smart TV. I got one just 2 months ago, the 3D version for $999.99. Full 1080P, 3D, 600hz refresh rate. Have Seb come3 and calibrate it for you too, picture is to die for! Set-up your apple TV and stream away on the most beautiful picture you will ever see.

Glare should not be an issue as the windows will be slightly behind and to the side of the tv and curtains will block the light also.
I don't really need the 3D but $999 sounds like a good price.
I am not a "techy" kind of guy and know nothing about calibration, so maybe that will be a nice bonus.
LED images look great but I have noticed that little "tracer" which is annoying.

LED Tv's are brighter, and the blacks are not as true. The bigger the TV the brighter the LED's get. Once you cross the 32" threshold LED's tend to be very bright and less "black". Plasma is still the way to go for larger TV's.

@ Weazl... Did you buy separate HDMI cables ? What do you use for cable? Rogers, Bell Something else?
Thanks

buy your hdmi cables at Monoprice.com. Don't overpay or get sucked into expensive cables.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Well, I actually bought a new receiver, centre channel, Blu-Ray, credenza and the TV so got a good deal and some other things. I hooked up Blu-Ray, 360, Rogers HD PVR all by HDMI cable. yes. As for your cables, Jeffc is right order through monoprice if you can't get Stereoplus to throw them in for free.
when buying the TV, don't forget to think about 3D glasses if you want them as well as the wi-fi dongle. Both options for that tv. Talk to Jason (store manager ) or Carlo (the owner). You won't be dissapointed. I hooked it all up myself and it is spectacular!Lots of yoga pants these days, not enough Yoga!

gotcha... what does that cost? I really don't need all the SMart TV and 3D stuff since I have Apple TV, so I may look for a cheaper tv without all these features...

Better processor in the 3d tv vs. the 2d tv meaning better image. And at that pricing point you can't go wrong. Anyways, happy shopping!

Have a look at Costco as well as they have been offering some good deals lately.
I picked up a 51" Samsung plasma, 1080p, 600Hz for $689, last week.
It's an entry level plasma but I don't need any more for the bedroom.
I've got a 3D Panasonic Viera plasma in the basement to satisfy my stunning picture cravings.

The word seems to be Panasonic Viera... Thanks for the input!
Anybody want to add input on Sound Bars? We do not want wires/speakers around the house and just want a simple sound bar for the family room to play music and connect to this new TV...
