Exclamation World Hickory Open Championship - Inaugural

This message is to alert golfers world wide to the Inaugural of the World Hickory Open Championship. The Championship has been created to take the modern golfer back in time…to the birth of the great game and hickory shafted clubs with gutta percha balls. The inaugural event on 11th July 2005, will be held on the Musselburgh Old Links, home of the Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club near Edinburgh, in Scotland. In future years, the event will go on a road show around the world.

If I had the money and the time, I'd be there in a shot. What glorious fun.

I have 2 very old ones, I don't dare hit them. But I'd love to try a set of new, traditionaly manufactured hickory shafted clubs. I doubt it would be worth doing more than once or twice, but I'd certainly rent 'em just for a hoot!

I have 2 hickory shafted clubs hanging on my wall in the "boys room". I also wouldn't dare hit them, they don't look too solid.

Years ago while attending UNB, I played in a university golf tournament at the urging of a friend. I didn't have any clubs so he lent me his grandfather's. They were hickory shafted. Once I realized that there was no way that those clubs could compete with the new technology (and after a few beers), I had a great time at the Fredericton Golf Club. If any of you get a chance to try it, you should. Heck, if you want to experience old technology, you should try hitting my 17 year old, steel shafted, Wilson Staff Tour Blades, or my even older Titleist Tour Blades. Thin shots off these clubs will resonate right into your molars.
