Some light internet stalking reveals that Lyle shot a round of 70 at Greensmere Legacy (gold tees) in a tournament this month. That's some fine golfing!

Rivermead is in great shape, now if only we could get all of these August tournaments off the course so members can play more often!
Even I've never heard of me

I just finished marking all the hazards and doing the GUR and pins on Friday. Should be a good test on Legacy on Tuesday as you'll definitely have to keep it in the short stuff or you'll be hitting provisionals. Hoping to have a number of members out as spotters which will help. Good luck to all playing.

Hey Gerry, will we see spotters with Red/Green flags? It worked great at Smugglers.

Yes you will but hopefully you won't see too many red ones. They sure do the job.

Thanks. It was the second and last round of our Club Championship.

Certainly looking forward to playing the C & D Monday and Tuesday and hopefully, Thursday. With a solid lineup of players in the field, it will be very interesting to see how others score on Legacy, in particular. As Gerry said, hitting the short stuff is essential as the bush is not cleared and any ball going off line will be difficult to find, let alone play. Long hitters beware.

Good luck to all here who are playing and may all your "flags" be green.

Sad that only 60 players signed up. Does not look good for the OVGA moving forward when you look at the regional split between GAO and GQ. Too bad.

Lower participation in tournaments is a sign of times and for this one, I don't see how the regional split has caused the numbers to decline as it remains the City Championship. All local GAO and GQ players are part of the OVGA, one or both of the first two rounds are now designated, and with any luck or a change in thinking, GQ will open the doors in some manner, to permit all local players to have a shot at their events.

Only about a half dozen fewer than last year from what I heard. Both the first and second rounds are designated.

Lyle I was really hoping that you'd be able to get your index down to a point that we could be paired together for two days... Remember, this is a gross event so there's no need to sandbag! Going off in the middle of the pack just doesn't seem right to me

Unfortunately, I would definitely have to reverse sandbag to get down to your +.1 handicap factor. Why don't we match cards over two days for a beer. I'm 1.5 so you give me two shots per round and since I am four decades older than you, 1 shot for each decade, for a total of 6. Fair enough? No? OK, then. Two days, total score for a cold one. I drink Stella.

Hole #11 on premiere, par 4 that goes downhill. I never know how much yardage it plays going from the top of the hill to the bottom. Do I take off 25 yards frOm what my rangefinder tells me it is?

Same thing for #12, I need some advice before Mondays round.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
For #11 it depends on how far back you are and the trajectory of the shot you are hitting.

IIRC from the back tees on #12 I always hit either PW or GW.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Just hit it to the bottom of the hill on 11 and you won't have any problems Pablo.

Is a two stroke lead enough to get me a free Stella?

    Thanks for the officiating!

I'm looking forward to getting wrecked by the course tomorrow, as I'm sure legacy will be frustratingly tough with the rough. Hacked together a 76, with some awful play but some good up and downs. It was quite windy which didn't help. 3-putt 15 and 16

Played with a Greensmere member who played really well, and even he said he's not looking forward to tomorrow because of how frustrating missing the fairway is.

    Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

You too. Yes, Legacy is a lot more difficult when you miss than Premiere. However, for those who hit the ball a long way (wish I had that problem) using a club that keeps the ball between the trees off the tee, is obviously essential. Will be very interested to see tomorrow, how the range of scores varies between the two courses.

I hit one of the spotters today. He waved the red flag on my first drive so I reloaded and the ball one hopped and hit him in the chest. Luckily he was ok.

SHAME ON YOU!!! He said it got him on the bounce. Keep them straight today and as there will be more spotters out don't put them to work.

Sorry Ger, you only have to put up with my errant shots for one more round

Ive been asked how I took a quintuple on #2 yesterday. Well it's because I don't know the rules. My drive left me 190 from the flag. I went long into the woods on my approach so hit a provisional. I found my original ball and heard my opponent say "If you find it you have to play it". I wasn't sure if he was right or wrong, and with no rules guy there I decided to Kevin Na my way out of the woods. It was so bad in there that I took an unplayable as I was hacking it out. If I knew the rules better I would have gone back to the fairway and taken a stroke n distance penalty. Now I know.

Tough day today, looks like people were having blow up holes left and right. The course was tough as it is being from the tips, and the very windy conditions on top of that didn't help.
Thankfully, I played survival golf and it worked out as I finished with a 78.

Checkout those scores though, not many people even broke 80 today.

And only 3 guys actually shot better on day 2... Legacy claims many victims today.
