they are the smallest heads I have ever used and I feel like I can be very
precise and can work the ball.
Sorry for the somewhat threadjack. Why is it that most golfers think or believe that with smaller heads it is easier to work the ball? Most certainly it is easier to hit it off the heel or the toe but not sure about it being easier to work the ball on purpose.Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

I don't know Chief, but maybe you should post this question on his thread at golfwrx.com and ask him, LOL.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

I don't know about working it on purpose, but you can definitely work it unintentionally. Just ask the left side of every green I play.
More seriously, the 575MMC that he talks about is a very small head. The same size as all of the different "players" models from Mizuno, Titleist, etc. They are surprisingly easy to hit, even out of rough, and the forgiveness is not that bad when you consider how small they are.
Also, the feedback from these is very distinct. I know instantly if I have hit it thin or high on the face. Thin hits are hardly punished, high hits will come up well short. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Yes, but every now and then it gets out of control. Unless of course I need to hit a big hook, in which case the ball goes straight.

I would think the smaller heads make it easier to work the ball because they aren't necessarily design to keep the ball straight. Where the larger heads have a more "Game Improvement" focus in mind - meaning they are designed to keep the bananas off the ball?. I don't know if this is at all true...just my opinion.

Working the ball is all about face angle and clubhead path.
The difference in head size and perimeter weighting on game improvement clubs versus players clubs doesn't really change much, other than maybe making off-center hits travel a little further.
I'm excluding hybrids from this discussion since they are completely different from traditional irons. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

i always thought the offset of larger game improvement irons made it difficult for golfers to work the ball both ways.

Tour players will play whatever gets them the best score. They generally hit the middle of the club face all the time so having game improvement features doesn't really help them that much.

Tour pros need to work the ball to be successful on tour (whether it's moving it all over or consistently hitting one type of ball flight - no tour player hits it dead straight). So my argument is, with all else being equal (being clubface angle and swing path) why wouldn't they use a club that would perform just as good on misses (which even tour players due from time to time, particularly the ones that don't strike the ball particularly well) if game improvement irons work the ball just as well? I think the way the club is designed has a lot to do with being able to work the ball or there wouldn't be such a difference in design. Sorry to highjack the thread...

It probably comes down to preference more than anything else. Give any tour player a set of off the rack GI irons and they probably still go out and shoot consistently under par.
When there is money on the line though, they need to trust their clubs, and for most, that means blades/player's cavity backs. There are some that use shovels, but they are the minority. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I would imagine that GI irons would cause a much too high ball ball flight for tour pros.
