Rory M on 17th at Sawgrass

Maybe my eyes are bad but it looked like his shot landed over the hazard and then bounced back into the water. If that was the case why didn't he get to place his ball on the fringe rather than reteeing?
Even if I was wrong in where Rory's ball landed, hypothetically what would be the ruling if what I described did happen?

The hazard is yellow staked on 17.

That means he has to keep the point where it last crossed the hazard between him and the hole so it is either re-tee or use the drop zone.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

It hit the bulkhead which is in the hazard. But If it indeed had hit the green and sucked back I would think then he could play it where it crossed the hazard assuming he could drop no closer to the hole. No?

ex-mailman he would have to proceed as jvincent said and go back to the tee or the drop zone as it is not marked red indicating a lateral water hazard. The same if it hits the green and goes off the back.

Or drop as far back as he likes on a line from the hole, through the point it last crossed the margin.

I had a feeling you'd chime in with that answer AAA but on that hole there isn't a lot of room to do that so I didn't include that option.

I had in fact assumed that but didn't want to let you down.
