Poker Chip Ball Marker

Was wondering what your guys thoughts were on using a poker chip as a ball marker?

There was a Golf WRX thread about it last year and some people have some pretty firm stances against it.

That's what I use All the time. When I play nice course I will usually buy a chip from the course as a Souvenir

Pretty big when it's near the hole.

Years ago a friend in Amherst used a chip that was as big as a manhole cover! If your ball hit it, it stopped dead in its tracks.

I have yet to play to win 1 million so when me and the boys play. We all use chips and if one is the way of someones putt we will simply move it a putter head and the. Replace it after putt. Havimg a chip in my pocket keep my hand occupied, better than playing pocket pool up the fairway!!!

I use one most of the time now but I do respect my fellow competitor and if I'm close to his line I will use something much smaller. I've played with a guy that got really upset if you use anything bigger than a dime and that is just stupid.

No problem here with a poker chip...you just have to use some common sense.

I dont have an issue with it. I use one, as does my step dad. He was telling me about a co-worker who went bonkers when one of the guys he was playing with from work used one about how the bright colour was distracting and ungentlemanly of him. Then I found the GolfWRX thread and wondered how many people were that picky (and finding a reason to blame a missed putt..)

When I first saw someone using a poker chip I thought it was stupid. Too bright, too big etc... But I tried one and they are most useful on long putts. I can see my marker from far away and study the green for my putt line. All the other markers I've used (penny, quarter, loonie, toonie, etc...) I would lose sight of them. It sounds crazy to say this but using the chip actually makes me more confident in my putting than when I used something I could barely see. That bright white chip helps me focus in picking the right line.

The Alabama golf course to which I have had a winter membership the last three years sells poker chip ball markers in the pro shop. They're very bright!

I have a marker I got from golf Quebec - golf Canada and it is actually bigger than a poker chip, but it's main color is white. Not flashy colors likenthe chips, but Still has the small marker that pops out though!

I use a marker from West Point Military Academy - not quite as big as a poker chip but close. No one's ever raised a fuss. But I also usually have a small push in marker from some course or other in my bag in case someone is fussy. It's really not worth arguaing about in my view.

The good thing about the poker chip is that you know where the guys ball is and you wont walk in his line. I use a metal angel and move it if it interferes.

I prefer a Breton Cracker like in Happy Gilmore........I keep losing them, but no worries, they come in a box of like 50 or so. LOL
