Ben Hogan
I've been on a youtube quest lately bringin up all the old videos of Ben Hogan.
It's ironic, I took many cues based on looking at a couple black and white pics of him as a youngster, yet I don't know anyting about him other than the usual stories you just can't be a golfer and not hear.
I have to say, I'm very impressed, not just with the golf but the interviews and the whole story (Please don't show me some dark underbelly to the legend right now lol).
There's a sense of consistency you get just watching him swing. When people do things very well someties they make it look easy. Watching him swing you'd think you could learn this game in a few weeks. There's a video of one of those Shell tv promos where it shoes most of his swings. They said he hit every green in that round, probably every fairway too, just brilliant.
I've got a new golfing hero

Bobby Jones still have the best looking swing in all of golf.
As paraphrased from the Legend Of Bagger Vance:
""Approach shots which fell to earth." As Sam Snead once put it, "Like a butterfly with sore feet.""

If you haven't already you need to check out The Secret in the Dirt. Both the website which has all things Hogan and the ebook by Mike Maves which is an outstanding study of Hogan's swing with comparisons to Moe Norman. And of course you must read Ben Hogans 5 Lessons.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Wknd Warrior, you may be interested in looking at The Methods of Golf's Masters. How They Played - And What You Can Learn From Them by Dick Aultman and Ken Bowden. The section on Ben Hogan consists, among other things, of an analysis (with swing sequence photos) of the early and late Hogan swings. There are differences. If you don't have the book it is easy to get through abebooks.com for the tidy sum of $3.97 (you can get pricier versions, if you wish) plus shipping. If you haven't dealt with this company, I can tell you that I have been dealing with them for many years and they never disappoint.

If you are a Hogan fan (I am) you might be interested in perhaps the best biography of him, my James Dodson (you can get it as an ebook) and the film called "Follow the Sun" with Glen Ford and Ann Baxter that came out in 1951. I was so taken by both the book and the film, that I just had to have a set of his Irons and got them right here on this forum and I love them. They are in the bag.
