Scientists predict end of world in 20 years
Hypothetical question:
Scientists discover a massive black hole very close to our solar system and they predict in 20 years it get close enough to swallow our solar system. There is no escape. We're all gonna die.
Do you stop procreating or go ahead and have children anyway? You only get out of something what you put into it

Yea, at least they get to enjoy some life as opposed to none, right? It would probably make me want to pop some out asap to be honest to experience as much of it as possible lol

NO, and here is my take. I'm 61 so I'm done... but I have 3 kids and 5 grand kids. If I were to encourage them to have kids (my kids that is) I think it would be selfish on my/their part. Yes, greatest experience in the world to be a parent, but bringing kids into world that is going to end? What have they got to look forward to? Guess you could be a glass half full guy (I usually am) and hope they come up with a way to avert this doomsday scenario but I would not have kids if they could not achieve their goals...IMHO.

Everyone you bring into the world will end up passing away anyway, you don't know when.

Is there an actual point to this poll?

Actually there is a point to life. Perhaps you'll figure it out once you have kids
I just find the subject of the poll somewhat depressing and wonder what motivated such a fantasy scenario. Nothing personal LOL!The opinions expressed in this post are mine and may not necessarily reflect the opinions of others on OG.

In that time someone might have the supergenius teenager that leapfrogs our technology and finds a way out.
I'd say it's our nature to keep on keeping on, you never know what can happen. Now if you're talking about the ficticious open shut case strictly for the point of argument, ya have kids anyhow. And when they are old enough, boy you thought telling them Santa wasn't real was tough...

The universe is a dangerous place. It's not fantasy to think that scientists will one day discover something coming for Earth that has the potential to wipe out most of life on Earth, for example a large asteroid. We're pretty much screwed in such a case with our present technology.
I do agree with you that it's depressing. Mostly motivated by the crappy weather which has interrupted my golf game! You only get out of something what you put into it

Actually I'm quite sure some black hole has for all intents and purposes already swallowed the solar system, it's just still in process and will be for quite some time, it just takes forever...

Just think back to 1000 years ago. what's the point of having kids if they'll likely get killed by an opposing clan. Been reading the game of thrones books. My life is good.

I don't care how big the hole is, I'll still probably lip out.
