They're both mediocre at best. With the new layout at least there is more real estate to use, however the actual forum is not really making any use of it by expanding to the browsers width so there's no point.

I'm with a few of you guys, thought the page looked much better before!

What'd they change?

I like the new look. The big buttons up top are much easier to navigate than that old tiny menu on the side.

I know on another forum I read they went to a "fixed" width style sheet, which looks like what Dan has done.
It makes coding the layout for certain features simpler/easier. On that site there were a few different style widths to choose from to account for people with different resolution monitors, preferences for reading in full-screen or windowed mode, etc.
My two cents, I don't mind the change. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

The style changes are site-wide, not just the forum. As jvincent said the fixed page size makes layout easier to do and results in a more uniform style. The main menu should be much easier to use on tablets and phones. There are also other under the hood advantages to this change.
Everything is still there, and page addresses have not changed so there should be no impact for back-links to pages which will all still work.
There are those who will always prefer a side menu to a top menu, or an expanding page to a fixed width one but one must decide on a style and this one has it's advantages over the old one from my perspective and hopefully some users will have a better navigation experience. I think the downside is small so I went ahead with the changes.Last edited by Kilroy; 04-10-2012 at 02:31 PM.

New site layout is awesome!!!!
Hi Dan,
just wanted to say I love the new design with no left hand nav bar.
I spend more time on here than watching or playing golf these days, and it works way better on my BB.
thanks.

Dan,
As feedback, the new site layout looked messed up in the button bar section when viewed using an ics enabled android tablet in desktop( full site) format.Proud member of the 2009 Ryder Cup winning team
