Help! Pick One: Optoma Pro 150S or Viewsonic PJD5123

I just want an entry level type of projector that will do a reasonable job. Will both these fit that bill and if you had to pick one, which one (using Optishot)?! Thanks in advance to the projector techies out there!

It is in a 2 car long garage and I will be hitting "lengthwise." The ceilings are a little over 9' high and the width is about 12' across. I haven't bought a screen yet but I would probably have it about 7 or 8' high and the corresponding width (I assume it depends on the projector) but I guess it will be about 9' wide. Thanks!

Both projectors are pretty much equal and both will have a minimum throw of 18ft for a 9ft wide 4:3 screen. I would not recommend either one but if you must choose between the two, go with the cheaper one.

I suggest you get a projector to do the full 12 ft width. Those will need near 23 ft throw to do that.

Hate to be a cracked record but the Optoma gt750e is well regarded here and will easily do the job for $700.

Active 3d built in as a bonus.

what are the min specs I should be looking for. I read on this forum that I should pick at least 2000 or 2500 lumens. Is there a min resolution for the optishot that will make it a decent picture?

The amount of lumens depends on the type of screen and whether your room has controlled lighting. The optishot works great at 1280X720. It does not benefit much when going to 1080p.

With today's low prices you want to go with no less than 1280 X 720 or 1280X 800.
Those you can get for around $500
As ZMax wrote if you can control the light you will not need high lumen.
At night mine is running at 1300 lumen and in the daytime at 2100, this according to the manufacturer. It is only if we watch TV in the daytime with open curtains that we use the full 3000 lumen.

You get the best projector user reviews on the Avs forum.
Some people on this forum are singing the praise for their projector because they have never owned or even seen another projector.
Same goes for simulators for that matter!
