    Taylormade Question

I'm looking for an Aldila Alpha RIP 70G X-Stiff shaft for my R-11 3 wood.

A few people have msged me saying they have a 70G X-Stiff DRIVER shaft. As long as I put an adapter on it, would it fit in my 3 wood the same as a driver?

    Also..

If I cut it down an inch what would it do to performance etc.. Would leaving it at standard length just make it a longer hitting 3 wood?

    Thanks Guy.

Check with a reputable fitter or the Aldila site for tip trimming instructions. Usually fwy shafts are tipped to accomodate for the heavier fwy heads as opposed to driver shafts. But in general, once any tipping issues have been resolved, slap on a TM adapter, trim to desired playing length and the shaft should work fine. The RIP line does not have specified shafts that differ between driver and fwy woods, although they do have hybrid specific shafts.

**Looked into it for you, you need to tip trim the shaft 1" for play in a 3wd. Do that, then put on the adapter and you should be good to go if you thought trimming 1" of the butt end would suffice for a playing length.**

So all I have to do is tip the shaft 1 inch and everything is good to go??

I'm just more worried about the shaft itself fitting into the adapter properly than the shaft being proper length. Also trimming it 1 inch, how much stiffer would it make the shaft??

If all you needed was to cut the shaft 1" to get it to your desired playing length, then yes. But if you look at stone bone's thread, apparently the shaft might need to be tipped a little extra to make up for the use of the adapter. I'd send an email to TM to find out for sure what is needed. But if no extra tipping is required, just trim the tip, glue the adapter and you're good to go.

Got an answer on WRX, no additional tipping is required. Tip it the recommended 1" and you're good to go!!!
