4 Iron Damaged
I played Prescott yesterday and was playing a shot out of the rough with my Callaway X-22 4 iron when I hit the top of a large rock in the dirt under the rough. I heard a very loud bang and saw some white powder fly up. End result is a big chunk taken out of the sole of my 4 iron and the leading edge is slightly dented.
I called Callaway and they said there is nothing they can do; they can't grind it out as they say it will change the swing weight.
Anybody have any ideas how I can get the sole fixed?
I will post pictures later tonight.

Without seeing the pictures I would be very surprised if the amount of metal that they would grind away would change the swingweight noticeably.
I had the same thing happen to a 5i last season and I took a hammer to the leading edge to get it back to mostly flat. This was a forged head so the hammer did work to a certain degree. The gouge on the sole will probably not be performance affecting. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Check this out on eBay. At $45 for a new one from a VERY reputable dealer, you may just be better to purchase as opposed to repair -

This is exactly what I thought about the swing weight and grinding; not impressed with Callaway. I have been a fan and player of Callaway for many years, I have spent large amounts of $$$ on their products and this is their response to do nothing and can't help me. My perception of them has dropped a lot today. I will not be buying anymore Callaway products. This has increased the speed of my progression to an all Wishon bag. Silly Callaway.

Interesting; I just called Golftown and they offered to grind the sole for me and said if they can't do it, as in it might be too deep, they would see about sending it to Callaway.
At least they are willing to look at it.
Callaway Customer Service used to be the best; now not so much.Obviously you're not a golfer.

After pictures!!!!!
I took the 4 iron to Golftown Trainyards and they buffed it for me.
The pictures are the after pics. The gouge is about half the size it was before. At least it looks about half.
Golftown even called Callaway again and they said they would not touch it.
Golftown Trainyards buffed it smooth for free, thanks Golftown!Obviously you're not a golfer.

Slight dent still in the leading edge but looks a lot better than before and JVincent is right it doesn't affect performance. I hit a bunch of balls in the simulator and it works just fine.

Callaway has always provided help and great customer service in the past.
I was surprised by there attitude and I was also in a really crappy mood at work this morning; not necessarily Callaway's fault.
I was annoyed that Callaway has closed all there offices and customer support centres; Asia, Europe and Canada (Toronto) all closed now. So no more extras or anything close to good customer support now. Calaway only has there Carlsbad offices open now. There world wide assembly plant has moved from California to Mexico. All of this due their very bad sales numbers last year.
I feel that their level of customer support has gone down considerably since the closures.
I learned this a Calaway customer support person in Carlsbad; she said no one is happy under the new CEO and no one there is happy about all the closures and all the changes.Obviously you're not a golfer.

well, this happened to me 2 summers ago at equinelle with my mizuno mp52s that i had 2 rounds on and i took a big gouge out of my 7i. I asked on here for what could be done (very little, buff it out, etc) but I never called mizuno because in no way was it there fault. it was mine and I could lay some blame on the course but ultimately, i just bought another 7i and had it reshafted. It sucks, but so is life but in no way was this the manufacturers fault, I am sure they all would have given you the same answer.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Buying a new iron would suck. I was venting and probably shouldn't have been venting here so much about Callaway.
Again, bad day at work and I let my anger get the better of me.
Thanks for the reality check.
I am just happy it is still playable and hasn't cost me anything yet.Obviously you're not a golfer.

that dent is huge! are you going to keep playing with this club?
You only get out of something what you put into it

Pablo, yes I am going to play this club. The pictures make it look worse than it is. I am a 20 handicap, it can't make my game any worse. It is not even on the face. It should be fine. I am not Tiger Woods, I am not a pro that gets free clubs. I will play it as it lies with the clubs I got; it ain't no big thing.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

I'd just replace it with a hybrid
Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

I might buy a hybrid, but it is not in the budget right now.

I guess, but you know how golfers are with their 'quirks'. Say you're in between clubs (3 - 4 iron), would you reach out for the club with a huge dent on it? Say you're in the rough, would the dent make you think what if there's another rock underneath the ball? Too many negative vibes imo. Then again, every club has negative memories to it

I would use the force and I would overcome the negative vibes.
I am mentally tougher than that.Obviously you're not a golfer.

I have taken the Callaway X-22's out of the bag nad now play my KZG EVolutions. The blades are so much fun to play.
Pablo, I don't have to worry about the bad vibes from the 4 iron anymore.Obviously you're not a golfer.
