XTour-Their are no pre made flights. They are made during the application process. Everyone sends in applications to play in the event with previous tourney results, handicap etc.. Then they select the 40 optimal players based on past tournament results and handicap. Great idea in my opinion to weed out the sandbaggers and to eventually move to a one flight elite field. All around best event of the year along with the Whig Standard. Flagstick does it right.

Roughly from last year A was 0-3.8, B 3.9-9 and 9.1 and up I believe.

Ginker is relatively correct. I was a 3.2 last year and was the highest cap in the A flight. I believe they are dropping it to just 2 flights this year but not 100%.

Apparently the player list (72) will come out around April 15. Should be a great tournament!

most of our handicaps are skewed by playing the same course over and over, that tournament is held early in the year and some guys dont quite have their games together. I would put some money down Denis that you would probably be around 12-15 over par each day. Please tell me you joined so we can make this interesting.

Pretty excited to play as an exempt player also, hope to put 2 rounds together. The tournament gets better and better. Any updates on the new putting green?

Still wish I didn't make a quad on the 36th hole.. reflects poorly on the score and was a killer on the nerves.. haha.

i guarantee you if you look at my or Denis 10 rounds used for handicap 8-9 of them are hautes plaines, i havent seen many of us go to kanata or eagle creek and shoot 75 and under.

So would you say that its tougher for public course players to maintain a low handicap compared to guys who are members at clubs and consistently play the same course over and over again?

no, well it depends on the course, the problem although I like hautes plaines, it doesnt challenge every part of your game. I would say all things equal the public player probably as a more true handicap then most club players.

    thats a really good question.

As the saying goes, some handicaps "travel well".

If you play a course with relatively little trouble off the tee as an example you won't be as impacted by bad tee shots as somewhere with lots of trees/water. Similarly, if you play somewhere with really tough green complexes you'll generally have an easy time at courses with less well protected greens.

As a specific example, consider compare Loch March from the Gold (127/71.5) to Stonebridge from the Black (133/71.3)

Loch March is much harder to score on even though from a handicapping perspective they are about the same so if you carried a 10 handicap at LM I am quite sure you would score lower at SB.

Last year I split my rounds between LM, SB, Equinelle, and Outaouais with some travel/tournament golf thrown in and as a general rule I can play to my index wherever I play because that mix of courses requires you to be able to hit all your clubs, including driver, well.

This of course excludes disasters like last Saturday.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Depends what kind of public player you are, if you play different courses all the time then yes, you'd definitely have a higher handicap. When I was a public golfer, I stuck to about 4 courses though. And yes, you're right Pat, the last 8 out of my 10 handicap rounds are HP.

Just bring your 'A' game and a hot putter, and it's an easy course.

    I'll be watching...

After looking at the first hole (473 yrd par 4), I'd probably shoot 15 over each day too, looking forward to being mocked

The good news is, the first 3 holes on each side are reversed, so you won't see that one until your 10th hole. There's a crossover between #4 & #13 tees.
