Groove Rules
Do the new groove rules apply to GAO or Golf Quebec tournaments? I am thinking of trying to qualify for the Golf Quebec spring open qualifier at Casselview and I can't find any rules on the Golf Quebec site relating to this. Can someone please steer me in the right direction?

The new grooves generally should only apply for tournaments like the CDN Open or the top tier USGA events.
That being said its possible that a provincial open could use it as a condition of the competition. If they don't explicitly say that it is then you are OK.Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

The manufacturing of new clubs after Jan. 1, 2010 must have the new grooves. As far as tournaments withing GQ you will be fine as the new groove rule doesn't affect amateurs until Jan. 1, 2014 and I think that will be for major amateur championships. All professional tours are using the new rule.

Thanks guys. Golf Quebec just answered my email, very fast, with this response;
"Decision 4-1/1 reads as follow: ''Between January 1, 2010 and January 1, 2014, it is recommended that this condition of competition be adopted only for competitions involving the highest level of expert player. After January 1, 2014, this condition of competition may be adopted more widely (e.g. at the highest level of amateur golf) but it is recommended only for competitions involving expert players.''
Golf Quebec doesn't intend to adopt that condition of competition before January 1, 2014."

Funny that GQ holds its tournament in Ontario.

As Casselview and most other local clubs in eastern Ontario are dues paying members of Golf Quebec, why not have the venue in Ontario? Without the OVGA, mostly Ontario courses and the second largest district within Golf Quebec, Golf Quebec would be in financial difficulty.

Is the same thing going on out west i.e Golf BC holding tournaments in Alberta?
