Red Chain Next Gen Engine
I just stumbled on this posting...an interview with Dean regarding the next-gen game engine: http://www.defunctonline.com/forums/...nge-interview/
We can keep this thread going for any info anyone hears about the new version. Not that there's much of anything out there yet, but hopefully some screenshots will be released sometime in the next couple months.

Hmm...just reading the article now. Looks like they're not expecting to be in beta test mode until next year (!!!). Ugh...

Hopefully that is an old interview...it mentions a Dev Diary starting in September, so I am hoping that meant September 2011. Although if that's right, the dev diary never started...I wish there was one. It would be fun to keep an eye on.

I think you're rdh that this is an old interview. I remember reading these questions a while back.
If the game gets finished and released by Xmas 2012, how much longer do you think before Protee or GSA gets their version?

I just posted a question on that forum to ask if it was an old interview, and got a response saying it was...from July 2011. Hopefully we'll start to hear some news from red chain in the next while...
I'm having a good conversation with myself in this thread!

You do not have to beta test! Just get a launch pad and go right on the Links 03 courses

I am beta testing my Protee plugged into my PS3 playing Tiger Woods 13
Would hae been nice?
Back to the real world.
One thing I liked was the idea that people could make money on course development. While we all prefer to have courses for free I would not mind paying extra for a few well made courses.

I've always thought the same syhlif. Free courses are nice of course, but the quality of them varies. If the designers made a bit of money off of their work, they could spend more time so the quality of them goes up, and it would also encourage more designers to create more courses. I hope red chain gives some thought to the development and distribution models for the next gen system.
I emailed Dean at Red Chain before I got the response that the interview was old. He confirmed it was very old and that "things have really changed since then". He said he'd still like to do a dev diary, but they won't promise anything until they know they can deliver. Not 100% sure what that means, but we'll see. Hopefully the project is reasonably on track. I always get concerned when projects are running late or over budget because if they continue to fall further off track, there is always the possibility that the project will be canned altogether. I haven't heard anything to imply that's the case, so don't read much into this...but it would be good to hear that they're making great progress and start to see some timelines for screenshots, demos, etc. to be released.

I contacted Dean to ask how things are progressing. He said they're hoping to start showing screens, etc. "maybe June/July-ISH". So, it could be a bit later in the summer, but hopefully we'll start to see how it's shaping up before the fall. He didn't say anything about a target release date, but maybe end of 2012 is a possibility? (purely my guess...I'm more inclined to expect it in early 2013)

Yeah...I think a lot of us are holding out a lot of hope that their new version will be our path forward. Hopefully they don't disappoint.
Bubba...You said you'd heard the GPS Golf folks were working on a new version as well, right? Do you have any more info on that one?

Well remember how amazing E6 looked on youtube clips? I won't believe anything is way better until I see a user (non-sponsored) posted video of someone playing on one. Actual gameplay, not promotional flyboys that may or may not be enhanced.
