    14 clubs

How many of you carry more than 14 clubs in your bag?

Not me... #1 I wouldn't and #2 there's always someone around counting in my groups. I also play some competitive golf as well and as a PGA pro once discovered, if an error is made after practicing and starting a round, you're toast.

I stick with 14 in the bag. Half the time I don't use 3 or 4 of them in a given round anyhow. I have never played a round and thought "if only I had club 'x'...", and since I carry I see no sense in dragging more instruments of futility around. In fact, if I am hitting the ball well I will even carry less than 14 on a course I know well since I can predict what clubs I probably won't need.

I carry 12 but probably only use 8 or 10 every round, depends where you play I guess too. Any more than that and it makes for tougher decisions.

I carry 14, which vary depending on the course I'm playing. If I'm playing at my home course, I'm likely to use every club in the bag.

The only time would be if I'm trying out a new club and want to compare it to the one I'm hoping it will replace. In that case I just slide it into the bag along with the regulars so it gives me 15. Of course this would only be in a practice round. Anyone in my group who doesn't like it would be welcome to join up with another group.

Sometimes at the pitch and putts, I'll only bring 3 or 4. Often shoot better than if I have all of them. Probably because a lot of the shots become less than a full swing.

    cheers,

Like Proforged, I will have often have more than 14 when I'm testing a club against the one it may replace.

With drivers and fairway woods this usually involves alternating them off the tee for each hole (i.e., use Driver A on Hole #1, Driver B on Hole #2 etc). With irons I often check the Par 3 yardages before I go and make sure the irons from BOTH sets is in the bag for these, so I'll know that I will be able to test "head-to-head" at least 4 times. Then every time a situation calls for playing one of those irons I alternate between the sets. If the course isn't busy I'll play both but only count the first one.

Other than that, I always go with 14 - although the makeup of the wedges and woods will change with every round depending on the course and the weather.

    Hey Buddy:

You can play with me anytime and I couldn't care less if you have 40 clubs in your bag. Heck I'll even play for money... you still have to hit the shots.
Only in golf does this seem to be a problem. You can go out and play a 'touch' football game - with three guys a side and four downs for the field - and no one will freak out and tell you it has to be tackle with 12 guys a side and 3 downs for 10 yards. But putting a 15th club in your bag for some people is a really big deal.

LOL! I guess what I meant is for me and for many other people, golf is just fun. Throw an extra stick in your bag and have a ball...

I could care less for a casual/practice round, but not when you are trying to play by the rules and/or playing for money. And if you are just playing for money, as long as it is set out before as part of the rules for the round.

I agree 100% Colby. I meant the hangin' comment as partial joke/partial seriousness. Obviously if you're playing by the rules you have to play by the rules...
In a casual money match though just between friends I really don't care how many clubs my opponents have.

What if the "extra" club in question was a 2 ft kids club that little jonny put in daddy's golf bag (you dont know about it and obviously dont intend to use), and only find out on the 8th hole?

Then little jonny's allowance would be going towards paying off my golf bets!!!

I completely agree. When I start competing on the PGA tour I'll worry about how many clubs my playing parners have in their bags.
