Transport car to Winnipeg
I just bought a new car and am giving my son my old car. He is attending UofM in Winnipeg. I ned to get my old car from Ottawa to Wiinipeg and am exploring options. I have quotes from car transport companies but prices are very expensive - most around $1,500. I am also considering driving it there and flying back but not looking forward to driving thru northern Ontario by myself in January. According to CAA it is a full 3 days of driving (9/10 hours/day) - this option would still cost me about $1,000. I was wondering if anyone out there had any other suggestions or recommendatios for getting this car to Winnipeg. If so, I would love to hear from you. Thx.

What about by rail?
Why not wait a couple of months until the weather lets up and then drive it out? Or have a father/son road trip.
Years ago I drove my brother-in-law from Windsor to Edmonton for him to go to school for his PHD. Drove out together and I drove back by myself. It was a great experience.

You might want to check those numbers as it's about 26 hrs (if driving within Canada) 12+ hrs each day (6am-6pm) so 1 night hotel + 4 tanks of gas + food + fight back.... if you go via US you might save 2 hrs plus gas is less expensive. Budget 1k...

3 days to Winnipeg in the winter is a good plan. Stop at the Sault and Thunder Bay the first 2 nites. That trip can be tough in January, so you dont want to drive tired.
My paycheck goes to my dogs.

Thanks for the input guys. Given it's winter and knowing the roads in northern Ontario I am definitely planning for a 3 day drive - don't want to be driving too tired. I have estimated $1K for the trip.

Good luck.... i just drove back from San Diego (4 days)... no snow/rain coming back, I got lucky... by the way, gas here is expensive. I fill up tank with $46/$47US and as soon as I cross Canada ($70)... yet, coffee was better here.
