    Fairway Woods Loft

Just wanted a confirmation on standard lofts of fairway woods. 13* strong 3 wood, 15* standard 3 wood, 17* 5 wood, 19* 7 wood ? Anybody who knows for sure and is not guessing like me, I would appreciate it. I am looking at the Titleist fairway woods and they only say lofts.
    Thanks
    Denny

The truth is that there are no "standard" lofts. Every manufacturer does their own thing so you have to average across everyone.

Your 3W numbers are pretty accurate. The 5W and 7W numbers are a little on the strong side.

Like JVincent said there is no standard.

Just to let you know. My Taylor Made are as follow:

    3 wood -- 15°
    5 wood -- 17°7 wood -- 20°

    Just trying to help...

I agree with jvincent - espcecially your 7w figure which seems a little strong. I've seen 5-woods with a 19* loft. Mine is 21* (same as the 3-iron it replaces), and I've seen them anywhere between 20* and 23*.

A 23* 5 wood? That seems a little bit high. A 5 wood does not replace a 3 iron, thats a hybrid. You should get more distance and higher ball flight from a 5 wood then a 3 iron. I just wanted to know the norm or average lofts of a 3 and 5 wood not lofts that don't make any sense.

I have quite an old 7-wood that is 24 degrees and a 5-wood that I made this year that's 21 degrees. I'm pretty sure both of those would be considered 'weak' by today's standards.

You should go to the manufacturer's website to check lofts for a specific club.

Here are the ranges for most modern woods:

    Dr - 12* to 7.5*
    2w - 12*
    3w - 13* to 15*
    4w - 16* to 17*
    5w - 17* to 20*
    7w - 20* to 23*
    etc.

You can see that there's some overlap--one manufacturer's 17* club can is considered a 4w while another will consider it a 5w.

I went to the Titleist site but they only sell there clubs by the loft not 3 wood, 5 wood and so on. I just wanted to match the numbers. Thanks for the list.

    Your welcome on the ranges.

I can get you a link to the info you're looking for from my home computer. Late tonight or tomorrow. Which Titleist woods are you looking at?

    I want the 980F in a 17*. A 4 wood should do the trick.
    Thanks

Sorry, I guess my wording was a little confusing. I was talking about MY 7-wood being 21*, with a normal range for a 7-WOOD of 20* -23*. Happy hunting!

Sorry, but the link I had for Titleist specs doesn't work (UK Titleist site).
