    Per Trackman:

"If we take an example of hitting a 6 iron with zero club path and face angle, and impacting the ball 1 dimple towards the toe of the club face, this will cause a spin axis of -2°, resulting in a shot being almost 21⁄2 yards offline at 170 yards carry."

One dimple equates to 2 1/2 yards off line with a six iron. Not insignificant.

    Hey All,

It is very busy this time of year as you can all imagine, so my customers come first - testing second

That being said we were still able to get in a couple more hours of testing today. This time we made sure the alignment was done properly and I setup the camera behind Al (the tester).

We did a video of 4 different shots (Hook, Slice, Fade and Draw)

    Draw: http://youtu.be/3MQOqxqqYJA
    Fade: http://youtu.be/3253rX1xakA
    Hook: http://youtu.be/1reGajigBS8
    Slice: http://youtu.be/inPwV6fbL9E

What I really need is a swing robot so that I can use the same swing every time to do the 10 shots of data. (I looked into one and found that I could get a used one for $25,000 - but I don't have the room or that kind of money - anyone want to make any contributions to the "Swing Robot for Cory" fund? LOL

Thanks for the videos Cory. The HMT works. Is it $6.5K accurate? I don't think so, but if you need club data for the GC2, it's the only game in town. Trackman and Flightscope won't give you club face measurements.

And Cory, no need to spend $25K on a robot. Just spend a few dollars on lessons for Al on how to hit a slice.

I really like the combination of club data that HMT provides, both movement of clubhead as well as lie/loft/impact point. Having read some of Kelvin Miyahira's work, I think that the relationship between all of these variables and resultant ball behaviour is more complex than I had originally thought in the context of the "new" ballflight laws. Without definitive proof I'm persuaded that rate of clubface closure also has some effect on spin as well as initial direction. I'm a believer that HMT provides the goods, fortunately I won't be purchasing for another year or so and can wait to see if the technology is either confirmed or refuted as well as take a look at any interesting competitors that might arise.

I do think that GC2/HMT is probably the best indoor launch monitor now.

Let's be even more precise. The ball flights math is defined by a brilliant man with the name Theodore P. Jorgensen. You can read all about it in his book "The Physics of Golf" (1994 !) He was the first to call it the D-Plane.

Studies made afterwards using high speed camera's etc proved he was right.

    video 1 draw :

Toe hit with a heel up
    face 5.2 open
    path 9,0 inside
    AoA -4.3 down

    ball azimuth 3.4
    spin 2825 (!)
ends 12 yard left of target.
    -----------------------------------------
even if we would include the azimuth error of 1 degree and move it to 4.4. and then adjust the 5.2 with the error of .5 to 4.7 the azimuth or face angle is still not correct.

Also when visiting the foresight website this is to be found :
    Swing Path In / Out:
Why is it called swing path and not club path? There is a difference between the two! The club path is a result of the swing path, the angle of attack and the swing plane angle.

? So you think that the wrongly measured face angle data is beter then the calculated face angle data ?

    ball azimuth 2.2
    spin 5200

Well, no idea what is going on there. Azimuth or face must be wrong.

No, I was just making a statement that the way FS/TM calculates face angle is not god enough for me, especially at that price range. TM/FS calculates face angle from club path and ball path. What happens when the ball is struck near the toe or heal?

As for the HMT, at this point, it appears that perhaps, the face angle tolerance is bigger than what Foresight claims. Measuring face angle from the side, even with high speed cameras, is not easy to do. No way I would pay $6.5K for this kind of performance.

You are assuming that it is calculated like that, but it is not! Where did you base that assumption on?

Noting special, why? You just get a reading about at what direction the face at impact point was pointing at.

Does TM, FS, or any other manufacturer have a software only free trial that lets you plug in AA, club path, face angle, club speed..etc. so that I can test different situations.

I don't care if impact location is not included as I'm totally fine with assuming center contact on this sort of theoretical analysis.

only http://www.flightscope.com/index.php...optimizer.html and after that you have to pay for software that is capable of doing that. For drivers there is the free trajectoware and for all clubs you can use Optimalflight for free 30 days (http://qualitygolfstats.com/)

With a 5* open face and 9.2* inside-out path, shouldn't the ball have landed near the target line? Doesn't seem to be enough spin axis on your shot.

Spin axis is greyed out and in italics, doesn't that mean it was an estimated value? Did you forget to use a ball with metallic dots?

That depends indeed on the spin-axis, gear effect could influence the finall spin axis tilt. But in general a 3-to-1 relation (so 9path, 3 face) would bring it back to the target line.

Correct estimated, Was a dotted ball. But it was the best face/path combination I could get that was close enough. Very tough swing to copy But getting the the horz. launch or azimuth was my goal.

Looking at those two shot I get the feeling that the HMT is not correctly aligned in relation with the main unit. Might be around 3 degree off. Is there an option to align the HMT unit?

My understanding is that the HMT is mounted with the GC2. I don't see how you can move one without the other. Cory?

the photos show that it swivels.

but my understanding is you calibrate it before use, this would shurely line the units up?

Still not looking like $6500 worth.

CPA how do you see it swiveling? Isn't it just different photo angles?
