Great game for Canada last night. Nice to see things fall into place.

Not sure if this is what you mean by Under 17, but this event was held here in St. John's before Christmas:

Lost the Spengler Cup a few days ago.... Now if only we were good at something else as well...

Oh well, I'm just happy my Czechs got a medal. Canada was the team to beat in this tourney, obviously, and I'm happy it was the Czechs who held Canada to the most reasonable score. Was really hoping the Russians would take it last night (much prefer Euro style hockey), but they didn't even show up. Oh well....

    Congrats Team Canada.

The answer is yes. As well as the Silver and Bronze. The Gold medal game was last night between Western Canada and Pacific Canada. Western Canada won. The Bronze Medal game was won by Atlantic Canada yesterday over Ontario.

Dan: What do you mean by the Euro style hockey? It surely can't be the slashing stick work (and I'm not referring to puck handling) of the Russians, who - in that regard - reminded me of the Broadstreet Bullies. The Junior games that I watched were fantastic and Canada, as you say, was the best of the lot. But they did not simply win their games with hard body checks. They skated fast, passed well, played wonderfully as a team, never slowed down and certainly never gave their opponents a break. What style would the Russians have demonstrated had they showed up for the game that could possibly be preferable to that?

It's a different style, hard to explain. More of a zone-possession, soccer-like offensive attack that is more ornate but generates less shots. What is often referred to as "making one pass too many", when executed properly (as is common in Russian Super League) can be awesome to watch. Almost like a really long powerplay that goes from one zone to another. It's all punctuated with the odd breakaway, and some of the more "demonstrative" players like Ilya Kovalchuk (or Ovechkin this time) are great to watch on those.

I didn't say Canada won on body checks. Far from it. But it has been shouted from the highest peaks in this country that "we will win because we play a more physical game". I agree that Canada had some of the highest skilled players in the tourney, but guys like Phaneuf are only there for one reason. He's a punishing hitter, but also prone to marginal or dangerous hits. Just not really a fan of his.

Anyways, enjoy the day! Canada won, again, so I'm not going to get into any trash talk. Just answering a question.

Thanks for the explanation, Dan. It was helpful. I certainly was not suggesting that you were trash-talking. To the contrary, I knew that you had a legitimate point to make. I just wanted to make sure that properly understood it.
