Golf in Las Vegas
Planning a trip to Vegas in the spring and wondered if anyone had been there and played golf? Advise? I have heard its a lot cheaper to play out of town but that would involve getting a vehicle too... Any info is appreciated.

Lance, do a search on Toronto golf nuts....
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Would not be Vegas if there were not replicas of things that exist elsewhere.... So keeping that in mind I've played Bear's Best a selection of Jack Nicholas' favorite holes from the courses he has designed. It's just over $200 and playing it once was a treat. I also played The Royal Links. A collection of holes inspired by famous links courses. It is a fun course but bring your A game. I was a 14 handicap when I played that course and if you can stay in the fairways you're in for a nice challenge. But getting into trouble there, is real trouble. We were on a par 3 and the group in front of us were heading to their balls. One guy got out of his cart and went into the bunker and then disappeared from view. Then we saw an explosion of sand, then another and one more. Then we saw a ball fly out of the bunker with no sand. Guessing he used the hand wedge. I also played TPC Canyon's also not a bad track at all. Buddy of mine played Rhodes Ranch. He said it was a nice track but slow on the weekend. His advice was go early and not on a weekend. Going for a convention again in January and will be looking for some other options outside of Vegas will let you know if I find anything or just default to the usual. I do know I will be playing Royal Links again.

Bear's Best is where I would play, and thrown in a lesson with Paul Wilson at the same time.

I'd look at playing out of town if you're playing multiple rounds. Haven't played there in a few years but when I looked the cost of the courses near the strip got really expensive - almost as cheap if not cheaper to get the rental car for a couple of days. It's a bit far away but the Pauite Mountain courses are pretty cool. I remember liking Badlands and Bear's Best. Dragon Ridge was a sweet course, but I think I heard it went private; I might have lucked out when I played it and it was open to public for promotional time period or something.

Go to Mesquite and play Wolf Creek. (On TigerWoods 2011 game)
There's a small casino/hotel there that makes it worth playing twice."Only one man in a thousand is a leader of men...

Was in Vegas over the Remembrance Day Weekend. Stayed on the strip, golfed at Callaway golf performance centre, its a 9 hole all par 3's pretty much all the same length. A bit boring, but for 40$ including unlimited driving range, rental and unlimited golf, plus only a 10 min cab ride from the strip made it a good spot.
Also had a beer and burger deal for 7$ which was definitely nice.
As others say, for full golf courses it gets cheaper the farther you are away from the strip, however you may want to rent a car if this is your idea as some courses would be an expensive cab ride.
Hope that helps a bit.

Also OFF TOPIC but while you are there I would highly recommend going to the gun store, for 130$ (depending on what package you choose) you can shoot all manner of different kinds of guns not available here in Canada. For Example I shot a Berretta 9mm hand gun (~10-15rounds) an M4 assault rifle fully automatic (~20 rounds) and an M60 SAW fully automatic (~25 rounds). It was absolutely awesome!

I also came back a couple weeks ago: Paiute, Rio Secco, TPC Vegas and Badlands in that order as my favourites.
If not going with a big group, definitely check golfnow for rates

Wolf Creek is definitely cool to play but it is close to 2 hour drive. I liked Rio Secco but it was expensive. TPC Vegas was very tough and expensive. Arroyo was well manicured and a private club type experience. Angel Park was cheap but decent for the money in my opinion although it does get reviews as a muni type course(a bit unfair in comparison to Pineview).
Unless you are with 3 others and can have the course or hotel offer a free shuttle then you will need a car.Last edited by khali127; 01-05-2012 at 10:41 PM.
