    Question Putting Penalties?

Seasons Greeting all - just found this forum and think it will be helpful.

Player A, holes a 6-foot putt, but leaves the ball in the hole.
PLayer B, holes a 5-foot putt, with player A's ball still in the cup.

Are there any penalties incurred for this action? If so, who is penalised?

Looking forward to your advice here,

    Thanks a lot

    Welcome to the forum.

The answer to your question lies in the definition of a ball "holed."

A ball is holed when it is at rest within the circumference of the hole and all of it is below the level of the lip of the hole. So no-one receives a penalty, but it is just poor etiquette to leave the ball in the hole.

    Thank you,

BC Mist, for such a quick reply!! Didn't expect that! Yes, it does make sense your answer. Just as well to get other players' views.

Sorry F.E. that I didn't post this in the 'rules' section - I was too eager to get the question posted, you see

You'll find the rules responses here are second to none. Not only do we have many very knowlegable individuals such as BC-Mist, we also have Gary Hill, who is an RCGA official to help us when we get a tough one!

Welcome and hope to see you back. Great to get visitors from the UK!

Actually BC was a little slow off the mark - it did take him 42 minutes.

It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.
