    If they outlawed hemlets, face shields, shoulder and elbow pads, I think you would see a decline in injuries. Here's why, and it has been mentioned already - the player doing the hitting (be it a clean body check, a head shot, boarding, etc.) is not going to get hurt with all that padding. However, those pads are quite hard on the outside, so the other player is being struck with a solid object, propelled at high speed, with a lot of weight behind it.

    If a player thought they might get hurt in a collision, they might try to avoid it a bit more.

    The Ontario Hockey League has effectively banned the use of hard elbow and shoulder pads.

    That is step in the right direction and it took a junior level association to make the move............

    David Branch ( OHL Commisioner) gets it , he brings in rules that protect the players. Brendan Shanahan & the rest of Hockey Canada should take notice.
