Flight + Hotel question

Have an interesting situation in regards to a trip to an all-inclusive next year.

Basically we are going down for a wedding to Punta Cana next Spring. The situation is that one of the brother's is dating a girl who is in her final year of grad school. She will most likely have exams during the period in which we are headed down. The brother will be booking with the rest of the group and paying in advance. His girlfriend will try and make it down on a separate flight if she is available (once she knows her exam schedule).

So the question is this, can she just pay for a flight down and shack up with the bf once she's down there? Or does she have to book a flight+hotel package to be able to get into the resort? I'd imagine it's the latter.... but just curious if anyone had any experiences with this.

They provide those who paid with special wrist bands. Each colour represents a different package, i.e. All-Inlcusive, Day pass etc.
Without a wrist band, she will stick out like a sore thumb. If she wants to eat and drink at the resort then she will need to pay...somehow.

I'm in the "call the resort and explain the situation" club on this one. They probably have a 1-800 number somewhere.
