Is a fitting the first step for me?

Hey all, I will be buying a new set of irons (probably Golftown.. sorry nokids lol) and am looking for some advice on how to proceed.

Background: I am a 7 hcp, never had a lesson, never been fitted before. I have a decent swing and am currently playing with a set of Callaway knock-offs (hooray nokids ).

Last summer I developed a nasty dead pull left off the tee with my driver. I've been to the range a few times this year and it's still there lol.

If I go and get fitted when I buy my irons, will my "temporary" swing issues cause a faulty analysis with regards to the fitting process?

Should I get my swing back before I get fitted? Or does it matter?

Lol, I think the way to do it is:
Lessons with old clubs... buy new clubs.....fitting with new clubs...

in my case i did the reverse:
bought new clubs...lessons with new clubs....fitting with new clubs

There is no doubt that a fitting is essential just to make sure that your clubs fit your swing etc. Obviously being a single digit HCer you have the swing part down!! I personally would bring my clubs to Don at Artisan who is capable of distinguishing swing flaws from inaccurately fitting clubs.

Yes it is definitely a swing flaw and not something I can blame on the clubs, unfortunately. I am most likely coming over the top and shutting the club face upon impact... but I am no pro.

I was just concerned that, since this isn't my normal swing, it would be a bad idea to get fitted at this point.
