yep...all sorts of houses in our hood with the same problem...gotta think they won't go near a roof today. I'd call them asap to get in the queue. funny, I drove around my block to see what was what and a commercial comes on the radio advertising for a roofing company. what timing.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

And those who have called a roofing company ...don't get hosed for them repairing 5-10 shingles.

I'm slightly afraid to go home from work today to see the state of my roof, still has ~2-3 years left, but that might have changed after todays wind. I might be giving you a call soon Scott.

Scott is a great guy and true gentleman and would trust him, and have trusted him on my roof. Mine has a few years left but once needed he's my guy.

    That sucks Donny!

My house is like, 3 years old. What does a 10 year or 20 year roof actually mean??? this is the second time I've had to replace shingles because of the the wind. no fun for golfin', no fun for roofin'.

it means the shingles should last that time frame - though getting blown off doesn't factor into that equation....I agree Donny, zero "fun factor" in replacing shingles.

I would check the warranty with the original contractor. You are saying this happened twice so they did (and excuse me for saying so) a lousy job. There are some roofs that are over 25 years old with rotten shingles and never lost a single shingle under today's conditions.

I wouldn't say it is 100% the contractor did a lousy job. Sometimes it's the shingle manufacturer. Traditional 3tab shingles have a wind warranty up to 100 km/hr. These shingles should have sealed by now and have no problem today. That being said, maybe the contractor using pneumatic nailing, had the pressure too high, or nailed the shingle too high allowing it to be easily blown off.

I had 20 years shingles on my roof and at 10 the whole thing had to be ripped off and re-done. The shingles were by IKO and there are class-action lawsuits against them for the shingles that were on my roof. From everyone that I have talked to you are lucky if you get 1/2 the life that is claimed.

Every shingle manufacturer has problems. however shingles lifespan depends on the which side faces the sun and also if there is adequate ventilation in the roof. If not, warranty is void. I see this a lot in the new home construction. 3000sq ft home with only 1800 sq ft of ventilation.

Scott could people walking on the roof damage the shingles, especially during the summer. What about from taking snow off the roof in the winter with a scraper?

My roof is 18 years old and is due to be change so it did last almost 20 years...

I would say that scrapping the snow off the roof will damage the shingles. I have often heard if you are removing snow from your roof that you should never go all the way to the shingles, you should always leave a layer of snow above them.

At this time of the year the roofer are quite busy... probably working 12 to 14 hours per day / 6 days a week...

It's hard to answer emails when you're 30ft in the air and waving at the OGers as they "play through" your construction zone.

Granted, it's harder to be a golfer when the roofers are listening to Miley Cyrus on a volume of 15 when the dial only goes to 12
