Virtual Golf
Hi Guys!
I got the chance to try the Virtual Golf Sim at a friends house Hotel today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRuYSeUkM_g
I am not that technicaly educated on the hardware of these sims but I think to the side at floor level is a high speed camera. On the ceiling their is what looks like a smaller web type camera with a row of halogen lights.
I am hitting a 7 iron on the driving range and the units are meters and Kilometers per hour.
I found the irons quite accurate.
With my lob wedge I made a hole in Plaster board on the ceiling and the distance the sim gave me was 100 meters-On the course my lob wedge goes about 70 meters.
As you can see my errors are either pushes or pulls- Any suggestions?
Ciao

Awesome video Singlin. That looks like the Sportscoach GPS simulator. How did you like it? Are you asking us to critique your swing? It looks good and I am sure like all of us changes can be ade to improve things. I would only suggest slower and lower take away and be careful at the top not to cast the club and come over the top. This will allow a more consistent inside out and hopefully solid ball contact. Overall the setup looks good but one can't see your grip or posture from the side. From the back it looks good.

It is hard to tell what is happening at that speed. A motion analysis would help. Your posture is good and takeway looks good. However, it looks like you are coming over the top on your downswing. Maybe too quick of a transition from backswing to downswing or swinging too hard from the top. Think of a pause at the top and gradually accelerate through the ball.

Singlin,
How does the Virtual Golf sim compare to your Protee 2.0? Are your errors the same as on the Protee 2.0?
Since the Sportscoach GPS simulator uses just 2 cameras, I wonder how it's able to detect the club? The camera on the floor is definitely for LA and ball speed, and maybe spin. The camera on top probably measures ball path and spin.

I have not actualy bought the Protee 2 sim yet, although protee in Holland gave me a really good quote. Alternatives keep on cropping up on this forum and I am sitting on the fence at the moment.
I found the virtual golf sim accurate with the irons down to the 7 iron.
I was getting 100 meter readings with the lob wedge which I found strange.
I also found a big difference on distance with the driver dependant on what I used to tee the ball up with, ie a normal tee seemed to give me better readings than a brushed tee.

Did the LA appear to be accurate? The driver distance difference with different tees is very strange. Distance should come from ball speed and LA.

Their was a shabby brush tee on the mat, I think that it slowed the ball speed on launch. It was wider than the ball and it looked as if a dog had chewed it.
The most odd aspect of the sim for me was the generous calculations it was giving me on my lob wedge. Topped, shanked, fat and hooks and slices all showed up well.
Off to bed now.
Good night!

Sorry bubba!
What I meant by "Showed up well" was the sime detected them well.

I couldn't help but notice that the software interface on my friends Virtual golf sim looks identical to the golftek Software.
Are they made by the same company or do they just use the same software?
Happy golfing.

Not yet Bubba.
I will probably get the protee in the fall.
I am too busy playing real golf at the moment.
Regards,
Simon

Hi Bubba,
Just a few questions for you...
What components of Protee do you have at this time?
How do you compare this with GC2 (sim and hardware)?
thanks

Vice I have the Protee sensor base, putting sensor and vcam/hcam. The vcam is up and going but the hcam is not ready yet. The GC2 is a cam based unit that should be more accurate than the Protee. I have never used The GC2, so can't really comment. The reports have been great. I really like the Protee.

thanks bubba, just a thought about gc2 though and that is it won't really track your club head path, angle etc. unlike protee.
