    Thumbs up Sens sign Anderson

I believe this is a good thing, based on what he has shown since his arrival. Time will tell if he is one of those "pros" whose game falls off once they have financial security.

Ridiculous. Guys like Anderson should be given one or two year deals tops. And stop bidding against yourself, let some of these guys get to free agency and see how they actually do on the market.

So Lehner is no longer the future? Or do they want to have a back up making over $3M in a couple years? So a guy whop was terrible in Colorado this year, and is 6-4 with the Sens, gets a 4 year extension... hahahaha

If he went to free agency, someone would have paid this or more. And what are the other options? It's not like we have a goalie ready to go right now.

6-4 with a bunch of rookies playing in front of him and a .938 save percentage and a 2.11 GAA. He was in a tough spot in Colorado (and their team stinks this year). Lehner is 19, and has a lot of years in front of him.

$3M a season is not a lot for a starting goalie. The term may be longer than anyone would have liked but only for a year. I don't think we would have gotten him for a 1-2 year deal. he would have gone elsewhere.

Not sure how many teams are really looking for a #1 goalie? And I am not sure if Anderson is a #1... but if he is, there are maybe 5 teams looking... and don't forget, there are other goalies out there also...

How do you know? He never got to free agency. Anderson is not an elite goalie, he is an injury prone journeyman and guys like that are a dime a dozen. Who cares if he went elsewhere?

right, we won't know. So who would you sign, assuming we could actually get the guy and get him at a reasonable price.

Making him the epitome of an Ottawa goalie.

Anderson is by no means a #1 goalie, but hopefully he can hold the fort until Lehner is NHL ready.

I don't know how much choice they had, they had to sign someone to play goalie in Ottawa; which we all know is where goalies go to die.

Who cares who they sign, they're rebuilding. Why tie up future cap space?

Murray has to go. This type of thing is ridiculous. Building around Phillips/Anderson -who is next to sign? Alfie? Thank goodness I'm a Leaf fan and my John Ferguson Jr days are over........

4 years seems like a long term but the cost/year sounds right. I thought Lehner still is a little time away, but not 4 years away.

This is not a lot of money when you have no money committed for next year and your team will be 1/3 rookies. Very good signing. There is a dearth of available goaltending talent, and if you compare this salary to other goalies, this is really right on par with market value.

Lehner is the future, but there is no harm in having him continue to develop in Bingo for a couple years, while the big league club works out its many many issues. Yes, the result is that you may have a 3 million dollar backup in Anderson in about 3 years, but if that's the price of 2 years of stability in net, then that's a small price to pay. Having a goalie who can stop some pucks and keep a young team in games will be a big part of building confidence in young players.

interesting take tonight on the Team 1200, Dave Gross was saying that the Denver media said that Anderson never got a fair shake in Colorado and that they were disappointed to see him leave.

As for Lehner, he needs to play and he'll get that chance in Bingo. He'll get to develop on a proper timeline without the need to rush him along and potentially ruin him. Can you imagine him playing goal with the team they had for the most part this year? The poor guy would be afraid of his own shadow.

I've been thinking about this and I see a win-win situation for everyone if things work out.

In a couple of years, if Anderson has played well and Lehner is ready to take over, then Anderson can be traded for something worthwhile. He also wanted to prove something, and where better than a team that is rebuilding and he will get a chance to play on. He wouldn't have gone to a contender this year, so if this gives him a change to show that he is good goalie. If it doesn't work that way, then whoever is GM at that time does what they need to to get rid of him.
It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

I think it’s a good signing for the Sens. This gives a chance to the kid goalie to compete for #1 spot within the next 4 years. The team has time to build and Anderson can be a stable #1 and be a big brother for Lehner in the years to come. At 3M$ a year, Anderson is not a goalie hard to trade if Lehner becomes the prospect the organization thinks he is. It would have been hard to sign a big name goalie in a rebuilding phase. And I can’t see paying 5M$ a year on a big name goalie with nothing in front of him.
Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

so it seems Murray is gonna be back as GM next year. Why else would Melnyk allow him to make these moves on Phillips and Anderson??

One pertenant point raised on the Team 1200 this morning... a lot of people saying stuff about X, Y, or Z goalie that would have been free agent this summer.

Sure, but what top-of-the-line goaltender is going to want to come to a team in rebuild phase for the next 3-4 years? The best goalies out there want to play for a contender, not a bottom-feeder whose defence leaks like a sieve. Good luck throwing enough money to attract a 'star' goaltender who probably wouldn't work out here anyways.

I like this signing. Maybe a year longer than my gut tells me it should be, but its hard to find a truly unfavourable outcome (barring LeClaire-like injuries and bad luck)
