Ottawa Golf Expo
Never been to the golf expo before, just wondering if its worth my time? Anyone know if there bringing in some big names for presentations or demos? Pretty sure the Toronto golf show last weekend had the tiger swing ruining golf coach Sean Foley there.

I will be providing the clubs for the first 100 kids on Saturday as well, hosting the long drive competition so bring your best swing! Like Dan says, drop by and let us know who you are. There will be 4 categorical prizes based on swingspeed/distance and a grand prize of a custom fit set of irons where every competitor has a chance to win.
I believe I will be situated just to the left as you walk in.
Looking foward to putting faces to logins !

You will be categorized by your swingspeed. There will be 5 categories . Under 75 mph, 76 to 85 mph, 86 to 95 mph, 96 to 105 mph and 106 +The longest in each category will receive a free club assesment and a copy of Tom Wishon's booklett " 12 myths that could wreck your golf game ". All the participant's ballots are then put in a box and the lucky name that is drawn will receive a full fitting for a new set of irons.
I will be providing the drivers. LH and RH in "A", "R" and "S" flexes.

Its a good way of starting the golf season. You get to meet a lot of folks who share the same passion.Having said that,it needs a face lift.

I stopped going a couple years ago. Honestly I only went to pick up the free golf coupons that were handed out with admission. Unless your in the market for a golf vacation or bored out of your skull its not really that big a deal. I agree a facelift is needed. You can demo the same clubs at golf town. There are a bunch of two for one coupons being handed out. You can pick up some relatively cheap gear at the shop(T&L I think). The show does get the blood of the eager golfer flowing a bit so that alone is probably worth checking it out. Also nice to chat with Dan at the OttawaGolf booth.
I am too old and lazy to get excited about it though."Get your smile on!"

A few years ago on the Quebec side, they had the golf show at the Hilton hotel Casino. It was a great venue and it did bring out a lot of people but not enough to carry the costs.I know the person who organised it and it was the end of the golf show as we knew it.It costs a small fortune to rent out big rooms,(Ottawa Congress centre comes to mind) so its not as easy as it seems. It would take quite a few years to recuparate the costs and I dont think its viable.Hats off to all the folks who organise it and make it run year after year.

Missing it again... working day shift the whole time the show is open. Always seems to be on the "other weekend" that I'm working every year. Oh well. Maybe next year........ enjoy for me, guys!

Just be careful when looking at clubs from Archie's golf, they are the biggest vendor there, and they have some really good deals on clubs.
Unfortunetely I picked up what I thought was a great deal (Ping i15 Driver $150+tax). There is clearly a factory defect with my driver and something is loose inside the clubhead. It sound like a coin bouncing around inside the club when you hold it vertically and shake it up and down.
I haven't had luck reaching Archie's by phone or email to see if they will offer a refund so I might have to send this club back to Ping and hope for a replacement.
EDIT - Archie's did contact me by email, after calling me unreasonable for 'blasting' them, and offered to refund the money. I'm returning the club to Ping Canada via Golf Town instead.
If anyone has advice on dealing with Ping Canada please let me know.Last edited by Alfie83; 03-13-2011 at 01:04 PM. Reason: Vendor offered resolution

Was cool to finally meet Dan at the show.
I wish I had seen those Team Canada hats, I would have bought one for sure.
Too bad about the Ping. I would take it to Golftown tomorrow as they are a Ping Dealer. I am sure they will help you.Obviously you're not a golfer.

I enjoyed visiting the show today...always makes me feel like the golf season is finally round the corner. Enjoyed chatting to reps from various local clubs...picked up lots of 2 for 1 deals and discounts and really enjoyed demoing the Adams gear.
But my favourite deal was a $50 discount booklet for Pakenham/Arnprior/Calabogie...haven't played Calabogie before but enjoy Pakenham and Love Arnprior...the book will pay for itself in no time!
Nice to say hi to you too Dan

The show was okay, it was good to see Dan. picked up 2 for1 coupons at some local courses. Picked up 4 rounds of golf, with power carts, and 4 hats for Manitou golf course in Tremblant. It was only $100 + taxes. So roughly $25 a round for golf with power cart, course looks nice too. May book a Condo at JayPeak as well, they seemed to have some good deals, $76 per person for golf and condo based on 4 people renting a 2 bedroom Condo. That was about it.

Worth it
Made my money back just with the free pack of golf balls each kid gets. I brought my three kids, plus one of my kids won a sleeve of balls.
Came home with 4 sleeves of balls.

Thats the problem Chief.....what can be done to make it more interesting. More give aways? More coupons? Less spam calls? More involved tutorials? Free Beer? I don't know the answer. But if you have been to one....its like been there done that, move on.

I would say a bigger venue. Seemed very crowded and I was there on Sunday. Apparently Saturday was much busier. I didn't get to look around much because i was helping out but there wasnt much room. Its obviously expensive to rent a bigger venue but it would be nice.
