    Angry Help! Air Installing Grips....

    Help!
I have installed a few grips with my air compressor and never had a problem. Well tonight I try 2 wraps of masking tape from Golfworks and try to use soapy water to install a brand new Golf Pride NDMC grip on my wedge and it got stuck about half an inch onto the shaft and then started to stretch. Then a bubble appeared in the grip and it got bigger and bigger and before I knew what happened I stretched the grip. So I assume I am out the cost of the new grip as a minimum. I have heard of guys using grip solvent to aid with install and lubrication over the masking tape.
Any help or suggestions would be good.
I am using this air tool from Husky that I got at Home Depot, see picture attached.
I don't want to ruin a whole set of new GP NDMC grips.

Golf Pride NDMC grips are not your friends when it comes to installing or removing them with your compressor as the bottom part of the grip is thinner than most grips and will always stretch. I would recommend you installing them the regular way.

It has nothing to do with your compressor although you could try at a lower psi setting. I remember reading about someone who had the same problem. What he did was to priick(mispelled on pupose ) 3 tiny holes at the bottom of the grip in order to avoid the ballooning effect.

Yes, I was a bit concerned at that point that it might pop or explode.
So I will have to buy 2 sided tape and solvent at Golfworks on Saturday.

Depends where you are installing them. You don't want the CEO come after you if whatever you are using has too strong of a smell.

I use Coleman camp fuel available at CDN Tire or WM.Smells very little and comes cheap and gets the job done. I have used other stuff(mineral spirits, varsol, turpentine) but some of them got me banned from the house

Don't you have to worry about camp fuel being flammable?

You're right but so is Acetone and so is a butane torch or propane and even a heat gun or cutting saw (sparks) or a grinder. near a compressor.
If that is a concern go with either one you were asking about.

BTW and it's something I've never done but back in the old days some clubmakers used gasoline

Chuck Brown's used gasoline for installing grips.
I will stop worrying and go buy camp fuel.
I may go buy one of the Golfworks air tools.
    Thanks

The MC's are difficult to install with air for sure. Even when you are successful they usually turn at the butt even when built up to .620 or larger and using Painters tape. When I say usually, it depends on the golfer. Those golfers that have decent swing speed and a semi-strong grip will move them every time in my experience. I now only use solvent and two way tape for these grips...saves embarrassment.

    Question

I am also going to install GolfPride Tour Wrap 2G grips with air.
Anyone know of issues with these grips when installing with air?

I was at Golfworks last Saturday and the new air tools were not in yet. I will be buying one to air install the Tour Wrap 2G grips onto my KZG Evolution irons.
