Scotty 1 inch Shorter?
I have a Scotty Cameron Newport Detour 2.5 putter in a 34 inch shaft length. What would happen if I shorten it to 33 inches? Will it affect swing weight or feel or head weight? Does swing weight even matter for putters? I assume the head weight would feel heavier with a 1 inch trim of the shaft? It would affect resale because shaft band says 34 inches. Any input would be good!

The headweight feels lighter to me when i shorten my putter to 33". That is why the currently Scotty Select models increase their headweight as the shaft length shortens.

I had my Callaway Tour Blue TT3 cut down to 33 inches and it is perfect length and weight for me. I may have to think hard about shortening my Scotty by 1 inch. I also assume you can't just put any putter shaft into a Scotty Cameron? If you can, I could always have the Scotty putter shaft removed and buy a new putter shaft and shorten it to 33 inches to be safe.

If the headweight of your TT3 is similar to your Detour then you should be good to go. You can always add lead tape to the head or lead powder down the shaft to add headweight. I wouldn't be too concern about shortening a putter...you can add a 1" extension to it afterwards if you want to get it back to original length.

Just got this off of Titleist website
Just got this off of Titleist website: The Detour is available in 34 (340g headweight) and 35 inch (330g headweight) lengths in both right and left hand, as well as 33 inches (350g headweight) as a custom option. So mine is the 340g headweight.

Not worried about resale, more worried about my shop skills and using a pipe cutter.

Cutting a shaft with a hack saw is a pretty simple process. Shouldn't take you more than about 10 seconds of cutting and 10-20 with a file to smooth it down...

I wasn't serious, I am sure I can do it, I used to be a bike mechanic. I am not worried about using a hack saw or pipe cutter.

I decided to keep it 34 inches for now and just put on the new Winn grip. After trying it on the carpet I am thinking it may have to go to 33 inches. I have been using a 33 inch putter for so long now that 1 inch feels strange. I suppose I can always choke down on the grip.
