    Photography

I see from the hobby thread there are some members on OG that are into photography, so let's hear about it. What do you use, what do you like to shoot....that kind of thing.

I'm a Nikon guy, just like the feel of them better in my hands. I started out in DSLRs a few years back with a D80 and now have a D700, which I find perfect for taking pictures of my kids and that kind of thing. The high ISO/low light ability of the camera is incredible. I'm very interested to see what the D800, or whatever they call the D700 replacement, brings this year.

    So, anyone else?

I am also a big photography fan. Just started getting into in a couple years ago. My first SLR was a Nikon D60. I recently upgraded to a D90 and so far am loving it. Like Dave I pretty much shoot pics of the kids..

I am def. a rookie though.. I think probably a 20 handicap I really enjoy learning as much about it as I can though.

I used to be a pro. Back in the days of film I used Bronica's and Hasselblads and a Nikon F2 with all the toys. That was when you had to wait a week to see your results. I did photo retouching with a fine sable brush and a steady hand.

The freezing wind blew in my face as I trudged uphill both ways...

I hadn't realized that you and those cameras pre-dated public transportation. Your old!

I've been an into photography for many years but never got into the expensive cameras. Most of the photos I take are in need of a good zoom so the DSLR with a big lense would be out of my price range. I have a Panasonic FZ-100 that has a 24x optical zoom and although some people say it's a crappy camera for image quality I'll disagree with them if you play with it enough. I just finished taking over 500 shots at the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona and a lot were from the top seats in the grandstand and you can still read the drivers names on the top of the door. It also has a great 11 fps burst mode which helps with shooting some of the birds down here. Here's a link to some of the photos if anyone is interested in having a look.

I thought someone would like that one. They actually walked around keeping the umbrellas over one of the drivers. He had a big grin on his face all the time.

You can get a nice digital back for a Hasselblad for a mere $13K nowadays. I think Pentax has a medium format digital camera at just below $10K? Serious stuff!

I used to develop film and print my own pictures too, mostly out of the lab at Algonquin. I definitely prefer photoshop to chemicals.

I don't think they need the umbrellas to provide shade. Great pics Gerry.

Count me in. I love taking pics and my camera is with me most of the times. The times that's not is the time I see the most incredible shots .... Nikon D80 DSLR

My wife has a box of antique cameras gathering dust in our basement. Is this stuff worth anything? Of course, I know you'd need more info, but I don't know much about them. They are old enough that someone thought to keep them. Maybe I'll take some pics and do some research.

I don't have any expensive stuff but I like photography. Here's one of my Dog - Dave Matthews and a shot from Athens when I was there for my honeymoon a couple of years ago. Shot with some sort of digital camera.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the props.

I shot this using a Canon SD900Ti point and shoot in Barbados last October. I thought it was a cool shot. You can actually see the haze of the humidity across the shot as it was something like 48*C that day with the humidex.

I didn't bring the D90 along, as the kid, his pack and play, two duffle bags of scuba gear and my wife's clothes took up all the room.

That said, this shot turned out OK.

I just picked up a Nikon D90 in early January as we were going on a cruise. Just learning but I am finding that I am taking a lot of great shots.

    I have attached a few.
