Myrtle Beach & Santee
Hey all. I've got a great (hopefully) end of season trip coming up to the Carolina's AND was just wondering if anybody had any input for any of these courses?
I saw a note from all the Santee courses where they each say: "Personal Coolers welcome but no Glass please". My kind of place.
Can I plan on shorts or will it be cooler than that (ie. <15 or >15)??
SANTEE Area:
* Wednesday November 22; Santee National (tee time around 1100)
* Thursday November 23; Foxboro (tee time around 0900)
* Friday November 24; Lake Marion (tee time around 0900)
* Saturday November 25; Wyboo (tee time around 0830)
MYRTLE BEACH Area:
Sunday, November 26 Arcadian Shores
Monday, November 27 Possum Trot
Tuesday, November 28 Lion's Paw
Wednesday, November 29 Shaftesbury Glen
Thursday, November 30 The TPC of Myrtle Beach
Friday, December 1 Heather Glen
Saturday, December 2 Carolina National
Thanks,

played Lion's Paw and Carolina National. Lion's Paw is a pretty good track, though Tiger's Eye there is spectacular. If you're into 36 in one day, you can probably get a good deal if you want to play one in the morning and the other in the PM.
I liked Carolina National, though it was really dry the year we played it. Fred Couples design so there are about a million bunkers on it (I am not kidding here - bring your sandwedge and make sure the grooves are new!). Got my first eagle there, #18. It's also a ways out - way up on NC so depending on where you are staying, leave yourself lots of time to get there.

I think we picked Carolina National because we're driving back after that round. Might as well be closer to Canada..lol.....Thanks

I've been to Myrtle twice but can't say I've golfed any of those courses. It's really hard to go wrong down there though, I think I've only played one course out of the 14 that I didn't like and that was Bay Tree Silver.

The average temperature for November in Myrtle Beach is 68 F and December 59 F, so you'll probably get around 60-65 F. Mornings may be a little cool, but the rest of the day should be nice. It will be difficult to get 36 holes in due to daylight......you would have to be first on the tee in the AM and play the same course in the PM or a property that has 2 courses.
Regarding your golf courses, you have a good mix of courses with obviously TPC being your top premium course. Heather Glen, Shaftesbury Glen and Carolina National are very good courses with Arcadian Shores, Possum Trot and Lion's Paw being above average courses. You'll be fine with all of your courses.

Oh great Champion...
Carolina National is a great course that would be more expensive if it was closer to MB. The service at TPC is top notch, maybe the best in the area. The course is very good also. The Glen's are also very good courses. Not sure about Lion's Paw, but Possom Trot doesn't usually get the best of reviews if I remember right.

One more thing Faldo. TPC had some problems with their greens a few weeks ago and closed their course to fix them properly. They reopened the course and the greens are about 70% right now.....they should be fine by the end of November, but you might want to ask your golf packager to double-check for you.

this is a great site as well:

they normally rate the top 20 but it looks like the hot dry weather has wreaked havoc on their ratings.

Heard nothing but good things about Santee, as long as you golf and sleep, not much else to do compared to MB, but the price is usually right. I've played some of the courses in MB, specifically Arcadian Shores - older, mature, well run and very playable. We played this spring and will play next year too. Also played Carolina National and our group (2005) did NOT like it, but I cannot recall why. We rated it a non-replay. Mind you our group is + 18 hcp so perhaps it was more than we can handle early in the year. I concur with the Tiger's Eye comment from jeffc. We've played the last two years and will do so again in '07. Spectacular is the right word.
Have a great trip.

I played Possum trot and it was very nice, theyve got the best driving range and short game for practice. when in myrtle beach, have fun counting the bargains store and whales, and the wings lol, you will see about 30 on the same road.
