    Tour Courses you have played.....

So which PGA Courses have you played? Call it playing where the pro's play and what was your experience. My bucket list has on it to play all the TPC courses I can and selected other PGA event courses. But I have really just begun....

    So far my list includes;
    1. TPC Sawgrass -- Stadium Course.
    2. TPC Louisiana
    3. TPC Las Vegas
    4. TPC Tampa Bay
    5. Disney Magnolia Course (also Palm)
Sawgrass was memorable but to be honest each of those courses had at least one hole that was either amazingly difficult or just beautiful.

I hope to play the Blue Monster in late December I would love to read about other member's lists....

    My list is as follows:

    Bethpage Black
    Pinehurst #2
    Spyglass Hill
    Kiawah Island Ocean Course
    Torrey Pines South

If you include the LPGA then I can add Half Moon Bay to the list.
Edit: Forgot about the Hunt Club for the LPGA.
Edit #2: Apparently Pinehurst #8 also counts.

I'd like to get to Sawgrass and Doral as my next stops.

Of those courses, Bethpage is my favourite followed by Kiawah. I'd like to try Pinehurst #2 after the remodel again.

Springhouse - Champion's Tour - Opryland in Nashville. The rough was like a wire brush. The ball went right to the bottom and that stuff was tough! Big fans were set on poles all around the greens - blowing on them to keep them alive in the 36c temps of summer.

    Hunt Club - LPGA
    Royal Ottawa - LPGA
    Le Maitre - skins

A couple of you have mentioned Torrey Pines. I have to admit I've only ever "played" it on the simulator and it looks amazing. Would be interested to hear how it played for you guys. What was the experience like. I may have a chance to get there later this spring.

I haven't played many at all... Angus Glen and a member at Hunt Club. I am planning to play Kapalua - Plantation Course this coming April... it'll be a great way to kick off the new season

I played it in 2002 or 2003 just after the renovation in preparation for the US Open.

I played from the Blue tees, 6900 yards or so IIRC. Compared to some of the other big name courses I have played it's not that tough if you have decent length. The biggest problem is if you hit it off line into the the rough. It is terrible. The grass (I can't remember the variety off the top of my head) has a really thick root structure and the ball sinks down. Good luck getting it out of that junk.

Visually it's a nice course to look at and the only hole which I didn't like is #18. The water in front of the green is out of place with the rest of the course. I played it on a really nice day weather wise. If the wind is up I can see it being a bear to play.

I have only played one - and I'm not sure it counts as a "PGA" course:

St Andrews Old Course (British Open)

The Open counts for the PGA Tour money list, so it counts.

Thanks. Very interesting. I would say this type of rough is likely a feature of the pro courses. TPC Louisiana had something similar to what you described. The grass had more of a stem and leaves then single blades the stuff was unreal. On the second hole, a 550 yard par 5, I was 120 yards from the pin and hit my 7 iron (which I normally hit about 165 yards) about 125 yards. Luckily, the guys I was golfing with were from there and warned me. The rough was not quite as bad at TPC Tampa Bay but is was lush and thick and it was certainly a factor in the game. I find most of the rough around here not to be as penalizing.

Played the Emirates Golf Club -Majlis course in Dubai 2007, about ten days before the open...awesome time...about 20-30 workers on each hole picking up everything that looked out of place...they would stop while i played thru, then go right back to work...beautiful course...shot an 87 with their rental clubs...i believe they were Ping G6's or something...

also played Angus Glen in Toronto that same year....great time as well...

That's the stuff. My brain cells are thinking it's called zoisa (sp).

I haven't seen that kind of grass anywhere else I've played.

Was searching for something different when I came across this old thread. Interesting though so I thought I might try to breathe some life back into it.

    Royal Montreal (Canadian Open/Presidents Cup)
    Royal Ottawa GC (Canadian Open)
    Ottawa Hunt Club (Canadian Open)
    Summerlea GC (Canadian Open)
    Beaconsfield GC (Canadian Open)
Northview Golf & Country Club (Air Canada Championship/Greater Vancouver Open)
Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone (PGA National Club Professional Championship)
    London Hunt (LPGA)
Toronto Golf Club (Canadian Open back in the day)
Rivermead (Canadian Open back in the day/CN womens tour)

Royal Montreal is definitely my favourite and I can't wait to get back for the Quebec Am next year.
