    new year greens fees

I'm rather tentative about seeing the greens fees rates for 2002.

I'm not expecting to be impressed with the courses' view of the economy. Inflation is running under 1.3% and the prime rate is 3.75%.... yet I bet we're going to see $35-$40 greens fees going up by $2-$5... ouch! Just in case we're all financially challenged, that's about 6%-12%!!!!!

I wish I were getting a raise like that every year.

    supply vs demand

In general we've got it pretty good in the Ottawa valley. In southern Ontario you pay $75-100 to play a course that costs $40 around here.

Running a golf course is a business. Courses will charge what they can get away with. Their customers will decide whether it is good value or not as compared to other area courses. Thankfully we've got enough courses (with more coming every year) to keep costs competitively low.

Still prices will rise over time and courses will respond with innovative ways to attract golfers (4 for 3 green fees, golf-n-dines, green fee packages etc.)

tx, what you say may be true....

but I'm sorry if I don't feel privileged not to be gouged!!!

$100 for a round of golf is a pretty steep price when you consider what most of us net in a day's work!

4jag makes a good point - golf in the Ottawa area is less expensive than in the rest of the province. It's a simple case of supply & demand.

From what I've seen, every course in the region is
pretty much booked all day, everyday. Doesn't seem to matter what the green fees are. Courses will keep raising fees until people stop playing.

I do know that some of the high-end courses in the Tremblant area faired poorly last year. One course in particular had more than one Sunday where a foursome could easily walk on with out a tee time.

Maybe this is a sign of a change, but as long as we're willing to pay, courses will charge as much as they can get away with.

    Cool prices vs quality??

I agree with all of you so far....

I do think we have it better than in the Toronto area and most areas for that matter. Being second to Myrtle Beach for most courses in an area of our size is also a great thing to have.

I hope we dont turn our courses over to the greedy.

I just want to play golf at a reasonable price and play more often.
