HBO - Vince Lombardi

This evening at 8:00 PM HBO will premiere its movie about the life of Vince Lombardi. If it's up to their usual high standards, it should be good.

If you haven't watched it, you might want to do so. This is an excellent and moving documentary that follows Lombardi from his days as a high school math, physics and Latin teacher and coach, through his exceptional NFL coaching career, and to his untimely death at age 57. His was a life motivated by a strong Catholic faith (he went to church ever day), a rejection of prejudice, and the pursuit of excellence. While he was unyielding in what he expected from his players, the bond that they formed was a powerful one. When he lay dying in a Washington hospital each and every one of his former players from Green Bay and his Washington Redskins players visited his to say good bye.
