Scratch Golf, Ryan Moore part ways

This may be old news to some of you, but I am shocked, I thought Ryan Moore would be at Scratch golf for a while. So sad to hear he has switched to Adams. I found this originally on Golfwrx.com

    I'm not shocked at all.

Money talks, and apparently Adams said what Moore wanted to hear.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

What always irked me about Moore was that he presented this "I'm different" persona, when in fact he is really just a typical PGA Tour player that couldn't get the money he felt he deserved...but now that he CAN get the money, he up and takes it.

I don't fault him one bit, but it's clear that his image wasn't a representation of who he is.

If it was about money, he could have gotten a LOT more with Taylor Made or Callaway. Adams does not pay anywhere near what they do - and TM/Callaway surely would have taken him on if he asked.

Its more likely that something soured in the relationship with Scratch and he wanted out. He was already playing a few Adams clubs anyway, so he obviously likes their stuff...

... and there is no way that Geoff would have Adams and Scratch clubs in the same bag!

Why would TM or Callaway "surely" take him on? Maybe as a secondary player, perhaps a little more money than a Nationwide Tour player coming up...but TM and Callaway have plenty of more noticeable, fan friendly players than Ryan Moore.

I'm pretty sure that Scratch wasn't paying him any money (he had some ownership interest, according to the article). More than likely, he was asking for money to play their clubs and they couldn't pony up the amount that he wanted.

I think Adams is trying to expand their market audience by getting more young guys on the PGA tour to play their clubs. I think the brand has for too many years been associated with the senior tour and that had been their primary market audience.

I'm sure they make great clubs and their prices are generaly lower that the 5 other major brands; but i'm sure if you ask any young golfer what clubs they would like to have in their bag the majority will be with the big 5 (Titleist, TM, Callaway, Ping & Nike).
Golfing only thing on my mind.......

I have been looking at golfwrx.com for a few days now for more on Ryan Moore and Adams and Scratch saga. There 2 or 3 threads about it and there are pages and pages of posts, so much drama and interest. Maybe it's just a slow start to the off season and people have nothing else to write about.
    Obviously you're not a golfer.

Reply email:Ari Techner President/CEO Scratch Golf Co.

Here is a reply from Ari Techner, President/CEO, Scratch Golf Co. about my questions regarding what happened with Ryan Moore.

    Jonathan,

Thank you for your interest in Scratch Golf Clubs. Unfortunately I cannot comment too much on exactly what happened with Ryan. I can tell you that he still loves our clubs and has told us that on many occasions. The rest of your email could be very close to what actually happened. Mainly we both decided to pursue other options that became available to us.
Golf Town will be carrying our full line next year so you will be able to find anything you want there.
Let me know if there is anything else that I can ever do for you.

    Best regards,

    Ari Techner
    President/CEO
    Scratch Golf Co.

    HI Ari
I am a huge Ryan Moore fan and because of that I found myself liking your Scratch clubs more and more.
I was a Scratch golf fan before Ryan Moore started playing your clubs. I became a fan after reading about Christie Kerr playing your wedges.
So what happened? Did Ryan want more money somewhere else?
Did he not like the Scratch clubs anymore?
Did he find Adams clubs better or was it all about the money?
Makes me wonder about Ryan's motivation?
I found your post in forum on Golfwrx.com about Ryan changing to Adams; I have actually thought of emailing you many times over the past couple of years to ask about your irons.
I play an Adams Hybrid and rest of my bag is all Callaway even my putter.
I really would love a Scratch hybrid and I keep thinking of ordering one through my Golftown store here in Ottawa Canada. They have told me this is an option that they can do orders for Scratch clubs.
Thanks for your time; I am sure you are incredibly busy running your company.
Yes, I am at work on my lunch break reading golf forum posts, I am addicted to golf. You make amazing looking clubs by the way, I have not had the chance to hit one or play one yet.
    Cheers
    Jonathan

You're not sure who Ryan Moore is because who obviously don't follow the PGA Tour or watch much golf. This is because you are too busy squeezing your 4,367 rounds into a 150 day season.

I write this out of PURE jealousy my friend lol

It's true buddy, watching golf just makes me want to go play it. It's like watching other people make love.

If you know about the career of Ryan Moore you know he was one of top collegiate players and signed contracts with two big name companies right out of college. Ping and Oakley. He talked about how he wasn't grinding anymore because of them. His game struggled and he sought out a new approach. Scratch golf was interested. Now it appears he is ready to make a pile of money from sponsors again. Nothing wrong with that.

Personally I don't see the big deal. Ryan Moore's fame comes from saying that he wasn't going to have any sponsorship because he felt like he wasn't "grinding" anymore...what does that even mean...egg management fee.

He's won some tourney's but this isn't a huge shift in the tide or anything, I just don't get the big deal. JAT.
