New to DD, have a few questions

Hey guys, luckily I found this forum. Seems like the only decent forum around that discusses simulators.

I just received the DD last week and have a few questions...

1. I have the nike pro combo irons. Do I need reflective tape for the clubs so the sensors can pick up the irons better?

2. Do you set the ball on the tee provided and hit off that, or do you set the ball in the opening where the tee goes? I have been putting the ball in the spot where the tee goes and hitting off the mat. It seems like it doesn't register that well since I feel like I am taking a divot because the ball is sunk a little bit.

3. I have the DD set up in my basement. It has good lighting. Is it best to have a lot of light around you, or as little as possible? Does a lot of light create issues for the sensors?

I'm still trying to figure out the consistency of this simulator. One shot with my 7i will go 145 and then the next few will go 85 yards. I'm hoping that I can get some insight from you guys, so I can get this working really well.

Less light is better also it will give you a better image on the screen from the projector!

I had the same problems a you thought the unit was just not working well!
But after a few evenings it got better.
I set the ball right in front of the tee hole for iron shots also have a cut down brush tee that is just a few mm higher than the grass top which also works well. I use that when I just practice with the irons.

You might have to much light which can trigger inconsistent swing but form me it was the new experience of hitting a golf ball in a confined space.
